Psalm 126:1-6 THE PSALM OF THE SOWING SAINT I. v. 1-3 THERE IS A WORD OF PRAISE A. They Speak Of Their Deliverance – v. 1 When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Eph. 2:8-9. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. B. They Speak Of Their Delight – v. 1-3 we were like them that dream. Psa. 47:1; O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. Psa. 113:1-3; Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD. 2 Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. 3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised. Psa. 135:1-3; Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the name of the LORD; praise him, O ye servants of the LORD. 2 Ye that stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God, 3 Praise the LORD; for the LORD is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant. Heb. 13:15. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. C. They Speak Of Their Decision – v. 3 The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. 1 Pet. 1:8; Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Habakkuk 3:17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: 18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. II. THERE IS A WORD OF PRAYER v. 4 Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. Romans 9:1. I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, 2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. 3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: III. THERE IS A WORD OF PROMISE v. 5-6 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. When these people returned to their homeland. All they had was a few precious seeds that held the promise of a future harvest.
A. The Task Of The Sower – The sower is to “go forth” and sow that seed. The verb form there is in the present tense. This speaks of a continual, consistent going and sowing. Matt. 28:19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: “Go” means “as you go.” When the Bible says, “Bearing precious seed,” that little phrase has the idea “of leaving a trail of seeds.” B. The Tears Of The Sower – and weepeth, Harvest may be lost a. Jesus Had A Burden - John 11:35; Jesus wept Luke 19:41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, b. Jeremiah Had A Burden - Jer. 9:1 Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people! c Paul Had A Burden - Acts 20:31; Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. Rom. 10:1; Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. Rom. 9:3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: Isaiah 66:8. Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. C. The Triumph Of The Sower – 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. : The seed is called “precious.” Why? the seed contains within it life. (Ill. Dr. James Merritt tells this story: “ "You're not an atheist, you're an agnostic." the Latin word for agnostic was ignoramus.) Are you an honest agnostic, or a dishonest agnostic?" , an honest agnostic says, 'I don't know whether there's a God or not, but I want to find out.' But a dishonest agnostic says, 'I don't know whether there's a God or not, and I don't want to know.' Then I said, "As you read the gospel of John I want you to ask two questions: 1) Who did Jesus claim to be? 2) What am I going to do about it?" 1 Cor. 3:6.
