Psalm 40:1-5 "Waiting"
1. DAVID'S PATIENCE - 1 I waited patiently for the LORD;
and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
a. His Personnal Waiting "I" b. His Patient Waiting " waited patiently"
c. His Purposeful Waiting - "for the LORD" d. His Profitable Waiting - "he inclined unto me, and heard my cry"
2. HIS PROVISION -
2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
a. A Divine Deliverance - He brought me up also b. A Direct Deliverance - out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, c. A Definite Deliverance - and set my feet upon a rock d. A Distinct Deliverance - and established my goings.
3. HIS PRAISE - 3 he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. David's Song Is a :- a. Different Song - And he hath put a new song in my mouth, b. Divine Song - even praise unto our God: c. Distinct Song - many shall see it, and fear, d. Defiant Song - and shall trust in the LORD. i. It's Revelation "many shall see it,"
ii. It's Recognition - "and fear"
iii. It's Reverberation - "and shall trust in the Lord"
4. HIS PERSUASION -
1. God's Conditional Blessings -
4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
a. The Blessings of Those Who Trust In Salvation "the Lord his trust"
b. The Boastings ..... Who Trust In Self - respecteth not the proud
c. The Barrenness ... Who Trust In Slander - such as turn aside to lies
2. His Considerable Blessings -
5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us–ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. His Blessings Toward Us Are :-
a. Widespread - "Many"
b. Wonderful - "thy wonderful works"
c. Worthy - "which thou hast done"
d. Wise - "and thy thoughts which are to us–ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: e. Without Limit - "If I would declare and speak of them,
they are more than can be numbered"
3. His Continual Blessings - "Waiting"
1 And He inclineth to me, and heareth my cry, (Present Tense)
2 And He doth cause me to come up From a pit of desolation
"Waiting! Yes, patiently waiting!, Till next steps made plain shall be;
To hear, with the inner hearing, The Voice that will call for me.
"Waiting! Yes, quietly waiting!, No need for an anxious dread;
Shall He not assuredly guide me, Who giveth me daily bread?
"Waiting! Yes, hopefully waiting!, With hope that need not grow dim;
The Master is pledged to guide me, And my eyes are unto Him.
"Waiting! Expectantly waiting!, Perhaps it may be today
The Master will quickly open, The gate to my future way.
"Waiting! Yes, trustfully waiting!, I know, though I've waited long,
That, while He withholds His purpose, His waiting cannot be wrong
