Genesis 6 : 1-22 Lessons From The Flood I. The Corruption Of The World A. Their Marital Choices - vs. 1-4 1. Flippant Choices - Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all 2. Fickle Choices 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. "chose" is "to try." trial marriages, 3. Fatal Choices 2 The sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; Apostacy - Not Angels - Mt 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. (Angels don't marry) Men of Seth married the daughters of Cain. B. Their Mental Contrivances - vs. 5-6 1. Their Conceptual Evil - They were inventing new ways to do wrong. 5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 2. Their Continual Evil - only evil continually. Isa 1:1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. 2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me. 3 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider. 4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. 5 Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. 6 From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment. a. There Is The Guilty Heart Of Man - 5 GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. b. There Is The Grieved Heart Of The Maker - 6 it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart C. Their Cruel Evil - 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 1. The Result Of This Corruption - "violence" - wrong:--cruel, false, unrighteousness.
2. The Reach Of This Corruption - and the earth was filled with violence II. The Condemnation Of The World A. The Sadness Of This Judgment - 3 the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. B. The Scope Of This Judgment - 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. C. The Surety Of This Judgment - 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 17 Behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
III. The Compassion For The World. A. The Affection - 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. B. The Ark - vs. 14-16 Christ is seen in:
A. The Source of the Ship - God's Answer 14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
B. The Size of the Ship - 15 this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
450 ft long, 75 ft wide and 45 ft high. It was big enough to accommodate All on board.
C. The Structure of the Ship - 16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
(a) There was only one door. That door was at the bottom, anybody could get in.
(b) There was only one window. It was at the very top. Man has to look up to God.
(c) There were three floors to the ship. - When a person is saved he is saved body, soul, and spirit by God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
D. The Security of the Ship - All Inside were Safe, All Outside were Lost.
Genesis 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
God didn't tell Noah to go in but come in. God was in the ship. A little boy prayed for his dog, his friends, his mom and dad, etc. Then he said, "Oh, yes God, please take care of yourself, because if anything happens to you we're all in a mess."
E. The Supply of the Ship - 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
C. The Acceptance - 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
