Genesis 6:1-8 “The Bad Old Days”
I. WHAT GOD SAW IN THOSE DAYS - Gen 1:31 God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.
Now, in Ch 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
(a) The Degree of Wickedness among men - it was “great”
i. The Particulars of the Corruption • Evil Marriages - 2 The sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
• Evil Men - 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
"giants" "bully, a tyrant" - It indicates great cruelty in might.
• Evil Minds - 5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
ii. The Perception of the Corruption - 5 And GOD saw :-
that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. • The awareness in the perception. "God saw" • The assessment in the perception. "God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth."
iii. The Pain of the Corruption - 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
iv. The Polution in the Corruption - 1 it came to pass,
when men began to multiply on the face of the earth. (Worldwide)
(b) The Depth of Wickedness within men - 5 that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
a. Great Apostasy - 1 men began to multiply on the face of the earth
The growth of the world's population led to a spiritual decay, to shameless depravity, to social dilemma, and to strong delusion.
b. Godless Activity - 4 when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
c. Growing Anarchy - 5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
(c) The Desire for Wickedness by men - 5 and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
II. WHAT GOD SAID IN THOSE DAYS
A. That Work would Cease - 3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be 120 years. after 120 years, God would stop dealing with men.
B. That Wrath would Come - 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth;
The sin of man calls for the judgment of God - Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
C. That Wickedness would Cost - 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
III. WHAT GOD SHOWED IN THOSE DAYS - He showed:-
A. Sovereign Grace - 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
B. Saving Grace - 14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood;
II Peter 3:9 the Lord is, “…longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
C. Sustaining Grace - Ch 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
