To show that sin pays and has consequences and it's ultimate consequence is death, but Grace is a gift, a gift of eternal life through our relationship (union) with the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Romans 6:23 (Amplified Bible)
For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord.

Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for You have gifted me eternal life through the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH
"For the wages of sin is death;"
1. Sin pays it's employee
2. The payment is death
3. catch: momentary pleasure
4. consequence: eternal destruction
Just like in John 10:10, destruction was already in the world because of the fall of man. Now the solution comes next. Just like there's a problem, then there's a solution. The solution to the problem will not be sought after because we have not yet encountered the problem. But even there's a problem, the LORD JESUS is always the solution to our problems. It's like employer and employee relationship, sin is a terrible and evil employer, when you work for it and promoting it's effects, like an evil employer: sin pays you with death, that's the payment of every work or toil you give to it. But the free gift is not compared to the compensation where you have to work for it, it's grace, it's a gift, you don't deserve the gift, but it's given to you anyway because it's based on the generosity of the Giver: the LORD JESUS CHRIST to give you the gift of eternal life. Grace is incomparable with sin, there's no point to compare it. It's eternal life with the LORD JESUS CHRIST while here on earth our relationship with the LORD. The pleasure and profit of sin as so-called and enjoyed by this dying and corrupted world because of the enemy is not deserving to be called fruit. Sinners or unbelievers does work to be paid with death by sin, namely: (1) ploughing iniquity, (2) sowing vanity, and (3) reaping the same. Therefore whatever they do will end up in death. Imagine a very wealthy person sowing in charities with his millions of money but got surprised when he ended up in hell when he died. It's because every person born in this world are imprisoned in a jail cell called sin, whatever they do, they might sing, dance, and do dramas but still they are a prisoner. There's another prison called "GOD's Grace" and whatever the prisoners do there end up in life. Thus we are called "slaves to righteousness"

B. GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD

You can only benefit from this available gift of eternal life if you are in union with CHRIST. If you have relationship with the LORD JESUS CHRIST as your Personal LORD and Savior. You need to live in His Grace every moment of your life through faith to please GOD. We were discharged from the law of sin and death no longer to be affected by it.
Romans 7:6 (Amplified Bible)
But now we are discharged from the Law and have terminated all intercourse with it, having died to what once restrained and held us captive. So now we serve not under [obedience to] the old code of written regulations, but [under obedience to the promptings] of the Spirit in newness [of life].
Romans 7:13 (Amplified Bible)
Did that which is good then prove fatal [bringing death] to me? Certainly not! It was sin, working death in me by using this good thing [as a weapon], in order that through the commandment sin might be shown up clearly to be sin, that the extreme malignity and immeasurable sinfulness of sin might plainly appear.
Sin working death in me by using this good thing, called the Law. It is through the commandment that sin is to shown clearly to be a trespass or rebellion against GOD's holy commandment which required payment of death. No man can perfect the Law except the LORD JESUS CHRIST who is the GOD-Man. Death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter.
Romans 8:6 (Amplified Bible)
Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever].

GOD never changes, He is the same yesterday, today and forever. GOD is the Life-Giver while man only experiences death because of his rebellion and disobedience. All throughout history, death reigned because mankind chooses to reverse what GOD has said. In the example of the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, the LORD GOD said that eating it will bring death to mankind, they never experience death before because they are immortal like GOD but they disobeyed and from then on death reigned through the works of the first Adam.
Genesis 2:16-17 (Amplified Bible)
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

But then Law came in, [only] to expand and increase the trespass [making it more apparent and exciting opposition]. But where sin increased and abounded, grace (God’s unmerited favor) has surpassed it and increased the more and superabounded,
So that, [just] as sin has reigned in death, [so] grace (His unearned and undeserved favor) might reign also through righteousness (right standing with God) which issues in eternal life through Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) our Lord.

Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation).
And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving us joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
As mortal beings, we can experience GOD's Grace after every sin and rebellion/disobedience we do to GOD, but the immortal are spared from grace like the enemy, that's why GOD hindered the way to tree of life so that we will not become immortal to experience GOD's Grace.
Genesis 3:24 (Amplified Bible)
So [God] drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden the cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep and guard the way to the tree of life.
Another is death through rejection of the LORD JESUS CHRIST. It's not a big deal that for example even in jail, people commit murder, they steal, they kill and they destroy in jail but a lot of CHRISTian converts in jail especially in jail ministry that I've ministered to will say "they are free" but you can still see them in jail, inside and can't even attend Sunday services because they are inside the jail, they are imprisoned physically but free spiritually. They've known the Truth that set them free that is the LORD JESUS. (John 14:6, John 8:32) But the people are offered Grace but they rejected it, hence their rejection produces death in them. While death is defined as "separated from GOD" yes, you can see them walking and jumping and even drinking liquors but they're dead spiritually, their rejection of GOD produces separation from GOD, there is no GOD in their mouths. Even ignorance is not an excuse because to GOD it's rejection of His knowledge.

Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that [the murmurs and excuses of] every mouth may be hushed and all the world may be held accountable to God.

Sin of rebellion and disobedience brought or pays death to it's followers. Like in the example of the ark of the covenant, when people look at it, they die, why? it's because GOD said not to look inside of it and it's already a command but man disobeys so manking are reminded of their rebellion against the following: (1) GOD symbolized by the ten commandments stone , (2) GOD's providence and authority over our lives symbolized by the manna, and (3) GOD's delegated authority on His leaders symbolized by Aaron's staff that budded.

And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for touching the ark, and he died there by the ark of God.
1 Samuel 6:19 (Amplified Bible)
And the Lord slew some of the men of Beth-shemesh because they had looked into the ark of the Lord; He slew seventy men of them, and the people mourned because the Lord had made a great slaughter among them.
Because it was not supposed to be touched and looked for it contained all the categories of rebellion, sin and disobedience known to man against GOD and against fellowmen.
IX. CONCLUSION:
Go for eternity, go for eternal life, go for the gift which is free not for the payment which has a catch.
