Summary: Just what is Redemption?

I. Salvation is always immediate.

A. This is expressed by the regeneration of our (s)pirits. (John 3:6; I John 5:13)

B. This is expressed by the indwelling of the Holy Ghost. (Ephesians 1:13-14)

C. This is expressed by the future promise of Christ to return for us. (John 14:2-3)

II. Redemption is not always immediate.

A. The (s)pirit of man is immediately redeemed. (John 3:6; Romans 7:6; 2 Cor 5:17)

B. The soul is not immediately redeemed. (Philippians 2:12)

C. The body is not immediately redeemed. (Romans 8:23)

III. Sanctification is both immediate and ongoing.

A. The spirit is immediately sanctified (1 Cor 1:2)

B. The soul is being sanctified. (Philippians 1:6)

C. The body will be sanctified. (Revelation 21:4)

Conclusion:

1. God began the work of salvation that leads to sanctification that provides redemption. (Philippians 1:6)

2. God will finish the work in us as we work out our own salvation.

3. We have been created for good works. (Ephesians 2:10)

4. Failure to work out our salvation leaves us without sanctification.

5. We are holy in Christ, we are to be holy in our daily walk, and we will have holy bodies in the future
