King David from a porn king, to God’s King
2nd Samuel 11:2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. (12:7-13)
An idle mind is the Devil’s playground. Sin begins in the mind. You don’t even have to do anything or act out in any way to sin ( Matthew 5:28).
1. David was tempted. (V: 1)
First, David was at a place where he should not have been, he should have been there with his men fighting alongside of them as the other kings were doing. Idleness is a dangerous weapon of the Devil. Idleness provides time to get in trouble like gossiping, in places we should not be, in other folks businesses, and looking at porn as King David was doing while loafing around on top of his rooftop.
2. David’s temptation moved to sin. (V: 2)
Second, here we see David acting on the temptation. Temptation is not a sin until you acted on it physically or mentally then it becomes your sin (Ex. 20:14, 16). Every one of us will be tempted at one time or another and it is our choice whether or not to go from temptation to sin. This is why it is so important that we walk in the spirit and not in the flesh, and feed the spirit while starving the flesh.
3. David’s sin led to another sin. (V: 15)
Third, sin will lead to more sin. Here, in V: 15 David tried to hide his sin by killing Uriah (that he may be smitten, and die, V: 15). When you start lying you will have to keep lying, and not only that you must remember all the lies in detail because folks don’t forget flakey statements.
4. God sent His preacher with His Word to David. (12:1)
Fourth, God sends His Prophet Nathan to preach to King David. God has always sent His preachers out to preach and convict people’s heart of their sin so there can be repentance.
5. God’s Word led David to repent. (12: 13)
Fifth, after to preacher Nathan preached God’s Word it led David to repentance (I have sinned against the Lord). The process works the same way today through our Lord Jesus Christ.
6. God’s forgiveness. (12: 13c)
Sixth, when there is serious repentance there is serious forgiveness from God (Lord also hath put away thy sin, 12: 13c). This is so encouraging because it lets me know no matter how bad my sins are, no matter how far I think I have gone that there is still forgiveness at the cross through Christ Jesus my Lord and Savior.
