The Study Of "The Holy Spirit"
Acts 19:1-6 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
The Doctrine Baptisms, Repentance or Adoption
Grafted In, Water, Holy Ghost, Fire
The Minister baptizes you in water.
The Holy Spirit baptizes you into Christ.
Jesus baptizes you with the Holy Ghost.
Mark 1:6-8 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey; 7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. 8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Luke 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh,
the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose:
He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Galatians 3:27 For as many of you, as have been baptized
into Christ,,,, have put on Christ.
Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Hebrews 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms,
and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead,
and of eternal judgment.
Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
They were already saved. ( In Acts 19 )
Born of the Spirit vs. Baptized with the Spirit.
It’s not automatic.
Luke 11:11-13 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
It is a gift but it is a choice and no you will not get a demon.
God won’t say” ha, ha, ha ” and give you a demon.
He gave us power over demons and said to cast them out.
Luke 10:19 We have power over demons…
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents
and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy:
and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
You must ask and receive by faith
just like salvation or any other gift.
Acts 1:5-8 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The baptism with the Holy Ghost is for power to live the Christian life… To witness, to worship and to win souls
and to do the work of the Lord.
Examples of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost
Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come,
they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the
Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues,
as the Spirit gave them utterance(ability).
Acts 10:44-47 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Acts 11:15-16 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized
with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
And they spake with tongues……
Tongues, praying with the Spirit or in the Spirit…..
1 Corinthians 13:8-10 Did tongues cease???
Has knowledge vanished away ??? NO to Both….
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
1 Corinthians 13:1 They should be a known language….
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,
and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass,
or a tinkling cymbal.
1 Corinthians 14:18 Was Paul demon possessed ???
18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
1 Corinthians 12:28-30 Do all speak with tongues???
28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles,
then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing?
do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
The Gift of tongues is different than the Grace of tongues.
The gift of tongues is from God to man…
1 Corinthians 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues,
but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues,
except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
The grace of tongues is from man to God…
1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:
for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit
he speaketh mysteries.
1 Corinthians 12:8-10 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers (different) kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
Kinds of tongues…
Tongues as given to edify the church as in I Corr. 12:10...
Acts 2:4 and Acts 10:46 …., as an evidence or proof
of the Holy Ghost baptism
Romans 8:26 When we don’t know how to pray…
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:
for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:
but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us
with groanings which cannot be uttered.
1 Corinthians 14:15 For worship…
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit,
and I will sing with the understanding also.
1 Corinthians 14:4 To be edified or built up…
4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but(AND) he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
Ephesians 6:18 To pray supernaturally….
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance
and supplication for all saints;
Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Recap !!!!!!!
Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
The Holy Spirit baptizes you into Christ.
Jesus baptizes you with the Holy Ghost.
You need the baptism of the Holy Spirit for power to witness, to worship, to win souls and to do the work of the Lord.
The gift of tongues is from God to man…
The grace of tongues is from man to God…
It is your choice…. Or is it ????
Ephesians 5:14-20 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess(debauchery or a stench to God); but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Be filled, be baptized in the Holy Ghost….. “Verse 18”
You must ask and receive by faith just like salvation or any other gift. We have a part to play, we must receive. Illustration, of the gift of giving. We walk by the offering plate and a check just jumps out of our pocket. No, we must use our faith to write a BIG check, and use our hands to write it and place it in the offering plate. Just the same with the gift of the Holy Ghost,
we must ask and receive by faith. We must use our tongue,
our voice, our lips and our vocal chords to give praise
and worship to the Lord, in the Spirit.
Receive by faith……….
1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,…..
Baptism of the Holy Spirit
The baptism with the Holy Spirit is a gift we can receive after we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Jesus is the One who baptizes us with the Holy Spirit.
According to Acts 2, 19, 10, 8, 11, they all show that the initial evidence that you have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the ability to speak in tongues. The Holy
Spirit wants you to communicate with God, through this new “heavenly language” of prayer and praise.
Like any other gift from God, we receive the baptism with the Holy Spirit by asking God for it and believing that we receive this gift from Him. The only requirement is that you must be saved. If you are saved and you desire the baptism with the Holy Spirit, you can simply pray, asking God to fill you with His Spirit and to give you your prayer language. Ask for His help to release that prayer language. Then take
a step of faith. Allow the Holy Spirit to fill your mouth,
open your mouth, and speak. It’s important to understand that your own will plays a vital role in speaking in tongues.
God will never force anyone to do anything, including speaking in tongues. He is not going to do it for you. Yes,
the Holy Spirit will form the words as you speak them,
but it is still up to you to do the speaking, you must open your mouth and let the sound come out. Because your mind is not creating the words you are speaking, you will not understand them. You may think you are making up words. But you are not. You are allowing the Holy Spirit to form the words you speak. And according to the Bible, you are speaking them directly to God: “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:
First, once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior you just have to ask God to baptize you in the Holy Spirit. "Ask, and it shall be given to you" .
Second, believe you have in fact received this gift from God. You have to believe that if you ask, you will receive.
Pray this prayer if you sincerely desire the baptism:
"Heavenly Father, at this moment I come to You. I thank You that Jesus saved me. I pray that the Holy Spirit come upon me. Lord Jesus, baptize me now in the Holy Spirit. I receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit right now by faith in Your Word. May the anointing, the glory, and the power of God come upon me and into my life right now. May I be empowered for service from this day forward. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for baptizing me in Your Holy Spirit. Amen."
Now, having asked and received, begin to pray in the power of the Spirit, just as the Apostles did, praising God in a new language. To do this, begin praising God out loud in whatever words come to you. Tell Him how much you love Him. Thank Him, worship Him, and yield your voice to Him. Now let Him give you new words of praise you never heard before. Praise Him with those words, too. You'll find that this to be a very powerful experience of communication with God that will build up your faith. Continue to pray each day in the language that the Holy Spirit has given you.
Now, everybody praise Him.
If you have the Baptism, pray, out loud in the Spirit.
Acts 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the
Holy Ghost since ye believed? 6 And when Paul had
laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Acts 10:44-46 While Peter yet spake these words,
the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because
that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift
of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak
with tongues, and magnify God.
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost,
and began to speak with other tongues,
as the Spirit gave them utterance.
