And we also [especially] thank God continually for this, that when you received the message of God [which you heard] from us, you welcomed it not as the word of [mere] men, but as it truly is, the Word of God, which is effectually at work in you who believe [exercising its superhuman power in those who adhere to and trust in and rely on it].

To show that we need to believe GOD's WORDS as our final say against this unbelieving world.

Deuteronomy 1:32
Yet in spite of this word you did not believe (trust, rely on, and remain steadfast to) the Lord your God,
V. THESIS:
Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS You accepted me in the beloved and You've given me Your faith to believe and obey in Your WORDS.
Ephesians 1:6
[So that we might be] to the praise and the commendation of His glorious grace (favor and mercy), which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

VIII. MAIN BODY:
The Jews disobeyed GOD's WORDS by sending spies. They disobeyed the WORD OF GOD that's why they distrust. If you distrust the LORD GOD, you will also distrust people.
A. The WORD makes us trust and remain steadfast to the LORD
"Yet in spite of this word"
Hearing the WORD OF GOD being preached increases our faith. There's no other way to increase our faith but by the WORD of GOD.
Romans 10:17-18
So faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).
But I ask, Have they not heard? Indeed they have; [for the Scripture says] Their voice [that of nature bearing God’s message] has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the far bounds of the world.
The WORD of GOD is JESUS, our firm foundation.
Hebrews 11:3
By faith we understand that the worlds [during the successive ages] were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible.
Hebrews 11:11
Because of faith also Sarah herself received physical power to conceive a child, even when she was long past the age for it, because she considered [God] Who had given her the promise to be reliable and trustworthy and true to His word.
Illustration: Even the apostles decreases in faith, and when they wanted a boost in their faith, what did the LORD do to them? The LORD JESUS gave them more WORD.
Luke 17:5-6
The apostles said to the Lord, Increase our faith (that trust and confidence that spring from our belief in God).
And the Lord answered, If you had faith (trust and confidence in God) even [so small] like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, Be pulled up by the roots, and be planted in the sea, and it would obey you.
Take your time reading GOD's WORDS, take GOD's WORDS with you, in your ipad, mobile phones, iphones, tablets, and read them like you are desiring milk and water.
1 Peter 2:2
Like newborn babies you should crave (thirst for, earnestly desire) the pure (unadulterated) spiritual milk, that by it you may be nurtured and grow unto [completed] salvation,
Psalms 42:1
To the Chief Musician. A skillful song, or a didactic or reflective poem, of the sons of Korah. AS THE hart pants and longs for the water brooks, so I pant and long for You, O God.
B. Faith is our lifestyle
"you did not believe (trust, rely on, and remain steadfast to) the Lord your God,"
Rest on GOD's WORDS, believe it, live it and obey it at all times. Not all Jews believed the WORD so they can't enter GOD's Rest for them.
Hebrews 3:18-19
And to whom did He swear that they should not enter His rest, but to those who disobeyed [who had not listened to His word and who refused to be compliant or be persuaded]?
So we see that they were not able to enter [into His rest], because of their unwillingness to adhere to and trust in and rely on God [unbelief had shut them out].
The issue is our heart. We need to believe in the midst of our heart. Cleave to the LORD JESUS by believing His WORDS.
Hebrews 3:12
[Therefore beware] brethren, take care, lest there be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart [which refuses to cleave to, trust in, and rely on Him], leading you to turn away and desert or stand aloof from the living God.
Psalms 78:22
Because in God they believed not [they relied not on Him, they adhered not to Him], and they trusted not in His salvation (His power to save).
Testimonial: I have two bible reading guides with me, one I used for our family devotion purposes, the other I used for my own personal devotions. Whenever and wherever I can, I read His WORDS, no more idle moments between me and His WORDS. I seek for His "touch" that I can get from His WORDS.

A man who hears and obeys GOD's WORDS is like a man who builts his house upon a rock, the rain, floods and winds came yet he did not fall.
Matthew 7:24-25
So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them [obeying them] will be like a sensible (prudent, practical, wise) man who built his house upon the rock.
And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth].
IX. CONCLUSION:
Rich man and Lazarus. Rich man in pain, wanted the his brothers to change attitude toward GOD, but it was too late for him because he never believed GOD's WORDS while he is still alive.
Luke 16:27-31
And [the man] said, Then, father, I beseech you to send him to my father’s house—
For I have five brothers—so that he may give [solemn] testimony and warn them, lest they too come into this place of torment.
But Abraham said, They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear and listen to them.
But he answered, No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent (change their minds for the better and heartily amend their ways, with abhorrence of their past sins).
He said to him, If they do not hear and listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded and convinced and believe [even] if someone should rise from the dead.
Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS You accepted me in the beloved and You've given me Your faith to believe and obey in Your WORDS.
