For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. - 1 Corinthians 13:12
Being teachable is something that is a fruit of humility and meekness in our Christian walks. It is very easy at times to read some understanding or level of knowing and then stop and judge others who are different then us. The Apostles were teachable in that the Holy Spirit was leading them into all truth, also they constantly asked Jesus questions. Do you ask the Lord questions about what you believe? Are you comfortable to hold things loosely and not dogmatically have to have a black or white answer for everything? I personally have seen many young believers dogmatically commit to a strong theological system and then less then a year later they fully commit to another that is almost opposite. I have been asked by many believers where my position was on a certain doctrine, or passage of Scripture. I have gladly answered many times, I simply did not know and was happy about it being a mystery at this point in my walk with the Lord.
There can be a danger when we become wise to ourselves and feel we are the authority on a theology or belief about God. We read, "Do not be wise in your own eyes (Proverbs 3:7). We lack a proper fear of the Lord when we think we can have God figured out and put into a box we made for him. The Apostle Paul even on important matters had grace for others and would not judge them or argue them into submission (Philippians 3:15) We can learn from even the weakest amongst us for each one of us has some truth, some practice that they understand or have a better revelation then we do. If we are willing to humble ourselves God will always teach us and show us his ways even through babes in Christ (1 Corinthians 12:21-24). If we become like strong trees that are not bendable or mouldable we stop the Lord's ability to easily work through our lives. Being teachable, humble is a quality of Christ-likeness that we need to grow continually in our journey with the Lord till the end. Heavenly Father, please keep me humble and teachable so that you can use me and allow me to be more like your Son. Amen.
