Hold fast!
Philippians 2:16”holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.”
Listen! The more we hold fast to our job, spouse, kids, worldly passions, dreams and whatever you may be passionately attached to; it might slip away! Caution! I have watched people shove God, church behind and run behind their loved ones only to be thrown away like dirt! Hence, let us ‘hold fast to the word of life’ that would stand by us and never ever forsake us! I like the phrase ‘word of life!’ Boy! I know what I am talking about! The day I picked up the Bible and started reading, it was like fresh dew on my parched soul! You would be surprised if I quote the scripture that riveted me:
Mathew 5;29”If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.” This ONE scripture said all I need to know about God! Fearful trembling came over me! You know why? I was never going to let Him go, hence I was exploring ways of pleasing Him and I knew from the Bible that His standard of holiness was ‘high and demanding.’
Nothing is more important that putting God above everything! Foremost! Gentleman! Hear me! Your job, your projects, sales targets, deadlines, business and whatever that you’re holding on to, should be put behind God! Put HIM before you! You would never be shaken! This needs fierce determination! That’s why Apostle Paul said ‘hold fast to the word of life’ because if you hold it with butter fingers it would slip! Take a solid grip of the Word! Are you hearing me?
• When you put the Word of life before you, you would get instructions needed for the day, corrections wherever necessary, guidance and also you would understand the ‘clean and unclean’ from God’s perspective. Are you listening?
• When someone urges you to pay money ( where money is not warranted) for a job to be done, you would instantly say ‘no’ knowing through the Word, that God abhors unrighteousness.
• When your boat starts sinking, you are able to grind your teeth and remain gutsy in the midst of a topsy-turvy situation and say, ‘I trust in Thee O Lord’ because you have read that His Word never ever fails! Amen.
My daughter was not allowed into the examination hall during her last semester of B.Tech exams for non-payment of fees. While other students were strolling into the hall, I got a frantic call from my daughter sobbing over the phone; since she was a star-performer in the college, we presumed that she would be excused. We were wrong. We had just half hour to do something, our bank balance was nil in the morning; however, my husband with faith rushed to the nearby ATM center and found just enough cash dropped by ‘someone’ right in time to pay the fees. Did you not read Jesus tell Peter “Open the mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find a large silver coin. Take it and pay the tax for both of us."(Mathew 17:27)
