THE QUESTIONS THAT MATTER THE MOST
Psalm 91:1-16
Introduction:
We have studying the life of David and looking at the Psalms that he wrote during those situations. We find in 1 Kings 1-2 that at the end of David’s life, his son Adonijah decided to set himself up as king. God’s plan was that Solomon would be the next king and David set Solomon up as King. In David’s last days he gave a charge to Solomon and from this he wrote Psalm 91. I’ve taken this Psalm and formed some questions that matter the most.
Psalm 91:1 (NIV)
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
1. Where do you dwell?
I know that a dwelling is like a house, building, etc…; but where does your mind and soul find rest? We must be careful on what we dwell on. Dwelling on something is how we worry or how we meditate. We all know how to worry- You just keep thinking about something over and over again; and then you start thinking about what could happen. Meditating is the same thing except that you are thinking about godly things and how God can have victory in your life.
How do you dwell in the shelter of the Most High? It is by praying, Bible study, meditating, and fellowshipping with other believers in Jesus Christ. What you put in your mind is usually what you dwell on. It’s kind of like when you hear a song, (and maybe even hate the song); but you keep sing it over and over again in your head- That’s dwelling on something.
Psalm 91:2 (NIV)
“I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:9-13 (NIV)
“If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.”
2. What will you say?
Our personal walk with God is a huge deal; but does it translate into our relationships? Do you believe and tell others that God is your refuge? If you say that God is your refuge and you put action to that, nothing will harm you. Now, you may be thinking, “That’s not true, I get hurt, I get sick, etc…”; but this is talking spiritually. When you dwell with God, there is nothing that can destroy you spiritually.
Psalm 91:14-16 (NIV)
“’Because he loves me,’ says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
3. Where have you set your love?
If I asked you what your priorities are supposed to be, I’m sure each of you would say, “God 1st, family 2nd, and others 3rd”. But, what are your real priorities? God loves us and He wants our love. How do you show God that you love Him? You show God you love Him by obeying His commands and by loving others.
Psalm 91:3-8 (NIV)
“Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.”
4. Who will you call for help?
After knowing all that God does for you, are you going to go to Him when you need help?

I pray that each of us would ask ourselves these questions and seek God’s will for our lives.
