36:26 A new heart will I give you and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. Why study Zadok?
Because Zadok represents or symbolizes the CHRISTian born again believers because of righteousness that came from the LORD. As Zadok so are we priests.
1 Peter 2:9 (Amplified Bible)
2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Zadok or "tsadaq" in Hebrew means:
1. to be (causatively make) right (in a moral or forensic sense)
2. cleanse, clear self, (be, do) just (-ice, -ify, -ify self), (be, turn to) righteous (-ness)
From the start, we know Zadok is a man who desires to be righteous before GOD. He is an Aaronite, direct descendant of Aaron and of the Levite clan, one of the princes of the twelve tribes of Israel. Unlike Aaron, who only wants to please Moses or a man-pleaser calling him lord instead of the LORD, though we know Aaron is older than Moses, Zadok has in himself a desire to please GOD being righteous himself.
1 Chronicles 27:17 (King James Version)
27:17 Of the Levites, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: of the Aaronites, Zadok:
Exodus 32:21 (Amplified Bible)
32:21 And Moses said to Aaron, What did this people do to you, that you have brought so great a sin upon them?
A separate leader in the tribe of Levites.
2 Samuel 15:24 (Amplified Bible)
15:24 Abiathar [the priest] and behold, Zadok came also, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God until all the people had gone from the city.
Even the time of King David, King David recognizes Zadok's spiritual leadership and Zadok was given great responsibilities during time of King David.
1 Chronicles 16:39 (Amplified Bible)
16:39 And David left Zadok the priest and his brethren the priests before the tabernacle of the Lord in the high place that was at Gibeon
1 Chronicles 24:3 (Amplified Bible)
24:3 And David, with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided and distributed them according to their assigned duties.
1 Chronicles 24:31 (Amplified Bible)
24:31 These likewise cast lots, as did their kinsmen the sons of Aaron, in the presence of David the king, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and Levites—the head of each father’s house and his younger brother alike.
During the time of Ezekiel, sons of Zadok was given priveleges in regards to ministering before the LORD by the LORD.
Ezekiel 40:46 (Amplified Bible)
40:46 And the chamber with its view to the north is for the priests who have charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, who alone among the sons of Levi may come near to the Lord to minister to Him.
B. His family
Zadok son of Ahitub (in Hebrew, name means "brother of goodness"), he carried with him his father's reputation.
2 Samuel 8:17 (Amplified Bible)
8:17 Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were the [chief] priests, and Seraiah was the scribe;
When it comes to the ark of the covenant of GOD, GOD is pleased to have Zadok represent him before the people.
2 Samuel 15:24 (Amplified Bible)
15:24 Abiathar [the priest] and behold, Zadok came also, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God until all the people had gone from the city.
Zadok has favor with GOD, the King of all kings, and King David as well.
2 Samuel 15:25 (Amplified Bible)
15:25 Then the king told Zadok, Take back the ark of God to the city. If I find favor in the Lord’s eyes, He will bring me back and let me see both it and His house.
2 Samuel 15:27 (Amplified Bible)
15:27 The king also said to Zadok the priest, Are you not a seer? [You and Abiathar] return to the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son and Jonathan son of Abiathar.
2 Samuel 15:29 (Amplified Bible)
15:29 Zadok, therefore, and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem and they stayed there.
2 Samuel 15:35 (Amplified Bible)
15:35 Will not Zadok and Abiathar the priests be with you? So whatever you hear from the king’s house, just tell it to [them].
Zadok just doesn't side with men specially when Adonijah made himself king replacing Solomon as appointed king by GOD.
1 Kings 1:8 (Amplified Bible)
1:8 But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David’s mighty men did not side with Adonijah.
1 Kings 1:26 (Amplified Bible)
1:26 But me your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon he has not invited.
1 Kings 1:29-30 (Amplified Bible)
1:29 And the king took an oath and said, As the Lord lives, Who has redeemed my soul out of all distress,
1:30 Even as I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead—even so will I certainly do this day.
C. Characteristics of Zadok that made him outstanding before the LORD:
1. Faithful
Remained faithful to the LORD even when Israelits went astray
Ezekiel 44:15 (New International Version)
44:15 "'But the priests, who are Levites and descendants of Zadok and who faithfully carried out the duties of my sanctuary when the Israelites went astray from me, are to come near to minister before me; they are to stand before me to offer sacrifices of fat and blood, declares the Sovereign Lord.
2. Trusted by the LORD
Appointed by the LORD to minister before Him.
Ezekiel 40:46 (Amplified Bible)
40:46 And the chamber with its view to the north is for the priests who have charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, who alone among the sons of Levi may come near to the Lord to minister to Him.
3. Rewarded by the LORD
Ezekiel 48:11 (New International Version)
48:11 This will be for the consecrated priests, the Zadokites, who were faithful in serving me and did not go astray as the Levites did when the Israelites went astray.
IX. CONCLUSION:
We are like CHRIST in this world, more than that of Zadok, because of CHRIST's faithfulness, grace and Divine works toward us.
1 John 4:17 (New International Version)
4:17 In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.
Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for in this world I am like You.
1 John 4:17 (New International Version)
4:17 In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.
