Attention:

Dog days of summer—Sweltering hot day—Humidity saps your energy—Sweat just stepping outside—

BUT you go to Ichetucknee Springs—Rent a tube—Walk to the put-in point at the northern end of the river—You decide to brave the alligators, snapping turtles, cottonmouth moccasins, & mosquitoes—You jump in!—The water is so cold that your whole body draws in on itself as if you’ve walked into a meat locker barefooted!—You settle into your inner tube & the current takes you along a most beautiful ride—The trees hanging over the river offer a respite from the blazing sun—Spanish moss blows in the occasional hot breeze—Resurrection fern colors the bare trunks of trees with a rich green hue because it has rained the day before—Fish are at your legs & feet—An occasional lilly blooms on the bank—Turtles plop into the water from their water-bound log as you approach—Your friends &/or family are all floating down-river with you as you enjoy their company & conversation...

...OR...

Before you take the plunge, You could assume the worst—The alligator will make a meal of me following the scent of blood from the snapping turtle’s having taken off two few of my toes, just after the cottonmouth has bitten me on the neck, after the rabid raccoon broke my skin as it chased me into the river!

There is a Challenge offered by Ichetucknee Springs! Fun or Fear! But you will never be able to experience the fun, if you invent & live in imagined fear!

The same Challenge is offered by God’s Call!

Our POWER(:12a)

Explanation:(:12a)

:12—“So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.” ”

God’s counter to Moses’ inadequacy is a “certainty,” on Moses’ part, that God Himself will “be with” him.

“Certainly”—yk keey—Conj.—1) That, for, because, when, as though, as, because that, but, then, certainly, except, surely, since. Strong—a primitive particle[the full form of the prepositional prefix] indicating causal relations of all kinds, antecedent or consequent; (by implication)very widely used as a relative conjunction or adverb; often largely modified by other particles annexed.

“Be”(See :14—“I AM”)—hyh haw-yaw—1) To be, become, come to pass, exist, happen, fall out. Strong—To exist, i.e. Be or become, come to pass(always emphatic, & not a mere copula or auxiliary).

“With”—Me eem—Prep.—1) With—1a) With, 1b) Against, 1c) Toward, 1d) As long as, 1e) Beside, except, 1f) In spite of. Strong—adverb or preposition, With(i.e. in conjunction with), in varied applications; specifically--Equally with; often with prepositional prefix(& then usually unrepresented in English).

Argumentation:

Mk. 8:34-38—“When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, & take up his cross, & follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake & the gospel’s will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, & loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me & My words in this adulterous & sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Acts 1:6-8—“Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; & you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, & in all Judea & Samaria, & to the end of the earth.”

Lk. 24:46-49—“Then He said to them[travelers on the road to Emmaus], “Thus it is written, & thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer & to rise from the dead the third day, & that repentance & remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

Acts 5:30-32—“The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you[Jews] murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince & Savior, to give repentance to Israel & forgiveness of sins. And we are His witnesses to these things, & so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

Rom. 1:16-17—“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first & also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

Rom. 15:13—“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy & peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

2Cor. 4:7-12—“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God & not of us. We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed-- always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So then death is working in us[apostles], but life in you[church].”

2Cor. 13:4—“For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.”

Eph. 1:15-23—“Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus & your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom & revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, & what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead & seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality & power & might & dominion, & every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, & gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

Eph. 3:20-21—“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever & ever. Amen.”

Eph. 6:10-20—“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord & in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh & blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, & having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, & having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, & the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer & supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance & supplication for all the saints--& for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

Col.1:9-12—“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, & to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom & spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work & increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience & longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.”

Col. 2:9-10—“For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; & you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality & power.”

Col. 3:1-3—“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, & your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

2Pet. 1:2-4—“Grace & peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God & of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life & godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory & virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great & precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

Ps. 119:144—“The righteousness of Your testimonies is everlasting; Give me understanding, & I shall live.”

Titus 2:11-14—“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness & worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, & godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope & glorious appearing of our great God & Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed & purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”

Our FAITHFULNESS(:12b-13)

Explanation:(12b-13)

:12—“So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.””

God grants Moses a “sign,” to enforce Moses’ trust. However the “sign” is not ?miraculous? nor is it even tangible for Moses as he hears & speaks with God. Rather it is a promise. A promise that after Moses has “brought out” God’s “people” then he & they(“you”) “will serve God.” That is, they will not be hindered/held back by another nation as by Egypt. Their path will not be determined by others, no matter their recognized power. Thus they will be free to “serve” YHWH their God.

Eph. 6:10, 11—“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord & in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

The very “mountain” upon which God is currently speaking to Moses is the same “mountain” upon which he(& the children of Israel) will “serve” God after their deliverance(:8, 10). This must be the same as Mount Sinai/Horeb(:1).

“Sign”—twa 'owth—1) Sign, signal; 2) Token, ensign, standard, miracle, proof. Strong—A signal (literally or figuratively), as a flag, beacon, monument, omen, prodigy, evidence, etc..

“Sent”(See :13, 14, 15; & 20—“Let...go”)—xlv shaw-lakh'—

“Brought...out”(See :8, 10, 11)—auy yaw-tsaw'—

“You/Ye”—Plural—

“Serve”—dbe aw-bad’—Qal Imperfect Plural—1) To work, serve. Strong—a primitive root; To work(in any sense); by implication--To serve, till, causatively--Enslave, etc..

“This”—hz zeh—Demonstrative Pronoun—1) This, this one, here, which, this...that, the one...the other, another, such. Strong—a primitive word; the masculine demonstrative pronoun--This or that.

“Mountain”—rh har—1) Hill, mountain, hill country, mount. Strong—a mountain or range of hills (sometimes used figuratively). :13—“Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel & say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ & they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ “What shall I say to them?” ”

Prior to God’s call to Moses, Moses may have considered his credentials to be bound up in his being a prince of Egypt &/or being a Hebrew(2:11; Heb. 11:24-25). Here he stands in need of that which will open the hearts of the children of Israel, to accept God’s deliverance.

Moses is Faithful but does not know how to share with others that God had spoken to him. He is rightly fearful of failing to rightly represent the design of God. He is rightly fearful of being misunderstood & being seen as a lunatic or megalomaniac, when his real power would derive from God Himself.

Moses is speaking as if he is, at least, entertaining the possibility of obedience to the task before him. Evidently God’s promises(presence & service—:12) were enough for Moses.

However, Moses wanted to give those to whom he was to minister a “name,” by which to refer to God. This is largely because this particular God is the One with whom he was involved in delivering Israel. The “name” would definitively identify this God’s capabilities as well as His limitations. It is given that Israel was encompassed/immersed in, & was heavily influenced by, a world & a culture of syncretistic world-views which were steeped in polytheism, animism, & pantheism, etc.

Moses needed to know how to respond to Israel’s doubts regarding his encounter with God. Moses was Faithful to his God!

“Sent”(See :12, 14, 15; & 20—“Let...go”)—xlv shaw-lakh’—

“Say”3X(See :14)—rma aw-mar’—Qal Perfect—1) To say, speak, utter—1a) (Qal) To say, to answer, to say in one's heart, to think, to command, to promise, to intend. Strong—a primitive root; To say(used with great latitude).

Argumentation:

Mat. 24:42-51—“Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched & not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Who then is a faithful & wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods. But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ & begins to beat his fellow servants, & to eat & drink with the drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him & at an hour that he is not aware of, & will cut him in two & appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping & gnashing of teeth.”

**Lk. 16:10-13—“He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; & he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own? No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one & love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one & despise the other. You cannot serve God & mammon.”

1Cor. 10:13—“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

Because God is faithful, we are given the means of acting on our faithfulness as well, by entering the door of escape.

2Sam. 22:31-34(Ps. 18:30-33)—“As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God? God is my strength & power, And He makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places.”

Ps. 16:1, 2—<<...of David.>> “Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust. O my soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.””

Ps. 18:1-3—<> “I will love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock & my fortress & my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield & the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.”

**Ps. 20:7—“Some trust in chariots, & some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.”

**Ps. 62:5-8—“My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock & my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation & my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.”

Isa. 12:2-3—“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust & not be afraid; ‘For YAH, the LORD, is my strength & song; He also has become my salvation.’” Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation.”

1Tim. 6:17—“Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.”

Acts 27:12-26—[Paul, aboard a ship bound for Italy]“And because the harbor was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised to set sail from there also, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete opening toward the southwest & northwest, & winter there. When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their desire, putting out to sea, they sailed close by Crete. But not long after, a tempestuous head wind arose, called Euroclydon. So when the ship was caught, & could not head into the wind, we let her drive. And running under the shelter of an island called Clauda, we secured the skiff with difficulty. When they had taken it on board, they used cables to undergird the ship; & fearing lest they should run aground on the Syrtis Sands, they struck sail & so were driven. And because we were exceedingly tempest-tossed, the next day they lightened the ship. On the third day we threw the ship’s tackle overboard with our own hands. Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, & no small tempest beat on us, all hope that we would be saved was finally given up. But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them & said, “Men, you should have listened to me, & not have sailed from Crete & incurred this disaster & loss. And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong & whom I serve, “saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; & indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ “Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me. However, we must run aground on a certain island.”

Rom. 3:3-4—“For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, And may overcome when You are judged.”

Col. 1:2—“To the saints & faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse: Grace to you & peace from God our Father & the Lord Jesus Christ.”

**Eph. 2:4-10—“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), & raised us up together, & made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, & that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Php. 3:3-4, 7-14—“Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation! For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, & have no confidence in the flesh, though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so:”.....“But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, & count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ & be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him & the power of His resurrection, & the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind & reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

**Titus 2:11-14—“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness & worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, & godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope & glorious appearing of our great God & Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed & purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”

**Titus 3:1, 8—“Remind them to be subject to rulers & authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.”.....“This is a faithful saying, & these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good & profitable to men.”

1Pet. 2:15, 16—“For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men-- as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God.”

1Cor. 15:57-58—“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

2Pet. 1:2-9—“Grace & peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God & of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life & godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory & virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great & precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, & to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours & abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, & has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.”

Col. 1:21-23—“And you, who once were alienated & enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, & blameless, & above reproach in His sight-- if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded & steadfast, & are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.”

Heb. 3:12-14—“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,”

Php. 1:9, 10—“And this I pray, that your love may abound still more & more in knowledge & all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere & without offense till the day of Christ,”

Col. 2:6-8—“As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted & built up in Him & established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy & empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, & not according to Christ.”

1Thes. 4:1-3, 7—“Finally then, brethren, we urge & exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more & more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk & to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification...”.....“For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.”

1Thes. 1:2-4—“We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, & patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God & Father, knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God.”
