I. EXORDIUM:

Are you rejected because of JESUS?

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To show that they rejected JESUS but JESUS became the Founder and Leader of CHRISTians's faith around the world.

Hebrews 12:2 (Amplified Bible)

12:2 Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

IV. TEXT:

Luke 20:17-18 (Amplified Bible)

20:17 But [Jesus] looked at them and said, What then is [the meaning of] this that is written: The [very] Stone which the builders rejected has become the chief Stone of the corner [Cornerstone]?

20:18 Everyone who falls on that Stone will be broken [in pieces]; but upon whomever It falls, It will crush him [winnow him and scatter him as dust].

V. THESIS:

Praise, worship and thank You very much for reminding me that I should not grow weary of rejection because I am like You in this world, and I am blessed.

Romans 15:3 (Amplified Bible)

15:3 For Christ did not please Himself [gave no thought to His own interests]; but, as it is written, The reproaches and abuses of those who reproached and abused you fell on Me.

Luke 6:22 (Amplified Bible)

6:22 Blessed (happy—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, apart from your outward condition—and to be envied) are you when people despise (hate) you, and when they exclude and excommunicate you [as disreputable] and revile and denounce you and defame and cast out and spurn your name as evil (wicked) on account of the Son of Man.

1:4 [My purpose is] that you may know the full truth and understand with certainty and security against error the accounts (histories) and doctrines of the faith of which you have been informed and in which you have been orally instructed.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. The rejected Stone became the Chief Cornerstone.

"20:17 But [Jesus] looked at them and said, What then is [the meaning of] this that is written: The [very] Stone which the builders rejected has become the chief Stone of the corner [Cornerstone]? "

JESUS was just quoting what will happen to Him as the Messiah:

Psalms 118:22 (Amplified Bible)

118:22 The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

Isaiah 28:16 (Amplified Bible)

28:16 Therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tested Stone, a precious Cornerstone of sure foundation; he who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone) will not be ashamed or give way or hasten away [in sudden panic].

Zechariah 3:9 (Amplified Bible)

3:9 For behold, upon the stone which I have set before Joshua, upon that one stone are seven eyes or facets [the all-embracing providence of God and the sevenfold radiations of the Spirit of God]. Behold, I will carve upon it its inscription, says the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity and guilt of this land in a single day.

and the fulfilment of it..

Luke 19:41-42 (Amplified Bible)

19:41 And as He approached, He saw the city, and He wept [audibly] over it,

19:42 Exclaiming, Would that you had known personally, even at least in this your day, the things that make for peace (for freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin and upon which your peace—your security, safety, prosperity, and happiness—depends)! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

Luke 22:61 (Amplified Bible)

22:61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter recalled the Lord’s words, how He had told him, Before the cock crows today, you will deny Me thrice.

JESUS is called Man of Sorrows and rejected by men.

Isaiah 53:3 (Amplified Bible)

53:3 He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him.

Luke 9:22 (Amplified Bible)

9:22 Saying, The Son of Man must suffer many things and be [deliberately] disapproved and repudiated and rejected on the part of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death and on the third day be raised [again].

JESUS was called several names by these rejecters but they forgot to call Him Savior and LORD:

1. JESUS was called a Samaritan and demon-possessed

John 8:48 (Amplified Bible)

8:48 The Jews answered Him, Are we not right when we say You are a Samaritan and that You have a demon [that You are under the power of an evil spirit]?

2. JESUS was called a blasphemer by the high priest of that day.

Matthew 26:65 (Amplified Bible)

26:65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and exclaimed, He has uttered blasphemy! What need have we of further evidence? You have now heard His blasphemy.

It will never be changed even today, the chief and highest religious leader of our land has rejected the LORD JESUS CHRIST and will not believe in His resurrection simply because they can't see JESUS's body? Of course, they can't see because JESUS ascended into Heaven with glorified body.

3. JESUS was called a liar, and pretender (as implied)

Matthew 27:39-44 (Amplified Bible)

27:39 And those who passed by spoke reproachfully and abusively and jeered at Him, wagging their heads,

27:40 And they said, You Who would tear down the sanctuary of the temple and rebuild it in three days, rescue Yourself from death. If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.

27:41 In the same way the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, made sport of Him, saying,

27:42 He rescued others from death; Himself He cannot rescue from death. He is the King of Israel? Let Him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in and acknowledge and cleave to Him.

27:43 He trusts in God; let God deliver Him now if He cares for Him and will have Him, for He said, I am the Son of God.

27:44 And the robbers who were crucified with Him also abused and reproached and made sport of Him in the same way.

4. JESUS was called vagabond imposter or deceiver

Matthew 27:63 (Amplified Bible)

27:63 And said, Sir, we have just remembered how that vagabond Imposter said while He was still alive, After three days I will rise again.

Matthew 27:63 (New International Version)

27:63 "Sir," they said, "we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise again.'

5. People laughed at the LORD JESUS, they laughed to scorn Him

Luke 8:53 (Amplified Bible)

8:53 And they laughed Him to scorn, knowing full well that she was dead.

6. They called JESUS a criminal (as implied) worse than a murderer - Barrabas

Luke 23:18-25 (Amplified Bible)

23:18 But they all together raised a deep cry [from the depths of their throats], saying, Away with this Man! Release to us Barabbas!

23:19 He was a man who had been thrown into prison for raising a riot in the city, and for murder.

23:20 Once more Pilate called to them, wishing to release Jesus;

23:21 But they kept shouting out, Crucify, crucify Him!

23:22 A third time he said to them, Why? What wrong has He done? I have found [no offense or crime or guilt] in Him nothing deserving of death; I will therefore chastise Him [in order to teach Him better] and release Him.

23:23 But they were insistent and urgent, demanding with loud cries that He should be crucified. And their voices prevailed (accomplished their purpose).

23:24 And Pilate gave sentence, that what they asked should be done.

23:25 So he released the man who had been thrown into prison for riot and murder, for whom they continued to ask, but Jesus he delivered up to be done with as they willed.

My rejections here in life was not even worthy to be compared to His sufferings that He got from the very people that He wanted to save and blessed.

Hebrews 12:2-3 (Amplified Bible)

12:2 Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

12:3 Just think of Him Who endured from sinners such grievous opposition and bitter hostility against Himself [reckon up and consider it all in comparison with your trials], so that you may not grow weary or exhausted, losing heart and relaxing and fainting in your minds.

And in His Love and Compassion on us, even the insults of those who insulted us as it this day falls on Him.

Psalms 69:9 (Amplified Bible)

69:9 For zeal for Your house has eaten me up, and the reproaches and insults of those who reproach and insult You have fallen upon me.

Romans 15:3 (Amplified Bible)

15:3 For Christ did not please Himself [gave no thought to His own interests]; but, as it is written, The reproaches and abuses of those who reproached and abused you fell on Me.

B. Everyone who falls on the Chief Cornerstone and whomever it falls will be crushed.

"20:18 Everyone who falls on that Stone will be broken [in pieces]; but upon whomever It falls, It will crush him [winnow him and scatter him as dust]. "

Broken or "sunthlao" in Greek which means:

1. dash together

2. shatter, break

Grind to powder or "likmao" in Greek which means:

1. winnowing fan or basket

2. triturate - grind to powder

The LORD JESUS was not only talking about the dreadful crushing of the Jews by the Romans, but also to their general dispersion to the present day. [Source: Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge]

Isaiah 8:14-15 (The Message)

8:14 The Holy can be either a Hiding Place or a Boulder blocking your way, The Rock standing in the willful way of both houses of Israel, A barbed-wire Fence preventing trespass to the citizens of Jerusalem.

8:15 Many of them are going to run into that Rock and get their bones broken, Get tangled up in that barbed wire and not get free of it."

Isaiah 8:14-15 (Amplified Bible)

8:14 And He shall be a sanctuary [a sacred and indestructible asylum to those who reverently fear and trust in Him]; but He shall be a Stone of stumbling and a Rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

8:15 And many among them shall stumble thereon; and they shall fall and be broken, and be snared and taken.

Powder is scattered all over the earth because Jews are being dispersed around the world.

Daniel 2:34-35 (Amplified Bible)

2:34 As you looked, a Stone was cut out without human hands, which smote the image on its feet of iron and [baked] clay [of the potter] and broke them to pieces.

2:35 Then the iron, the [baked] clay [of the potter], the bronze, the silver, and the gold were broken and crushed together and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors, and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them could be found. And the Stone that smote the image became a great mountain or rock and filled the whole earth.

Daniel 2:44-45 (Amplified Bible)

2:44 And in the days of these [final ten] kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall its sovereignty be left to another people; but it shall break and crush and consume all these kingdoms and it shall stand forever.

2:45 Just as you saw that the Stone was cut out of the mountain without hands and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter. The dream is certain and the interpretation of it is sure.

Zechariah 12:3 (Amplified Bible)

12:3 And in that day I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all peoples; all who lift it or burden themselves with it shall be sorely wounded. And all the nations of the earth shall come and gather together against it.

Matthew 21:34-37 (Amplified Bible)

21:34 When the fruit season drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his [share of the] fruit.

21:35 But the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

21:36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first time, and they treated them the same way.

21:37 Finally he sent his own son to them, saying, They will respect and give heed to my son.

1 Thessalonians 2:16 (Amplified Bible)

2:16 Forbidding and hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles (the nations) that they may be saved. So as always they fill up [to the brim the measure of] their sins. But God’s wrath has come upon them at last [completely and forever]!

IX. CONCLUSION:

Praise, worship and thank You very much for reminding me that I should not grow weary of rejection because I am like You in this world, and I am blessed.
