Luke 20:16 (Amplified Bible)
20:16 He will come and [utterly] put an end to those tenants and will give the vineyard to others. When they [the chief priests and the scribes and the elders] heard this, they said, May it never be!
V. THESIS:
Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for You brought Salvation and Grace to me because of the rejection of another, I don't deserve Your Grace and Mercy but I accept and receive it right now in my life for it's a Gift from You.

VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. An end to the original husband men
"He will come and [utterly] put an end to those tenants and will give the vineyard to others."
The original husband men are the Jewish leaders. Synagogue is not a part of GOD's institution in the Old Testament, it's a part of human institution. If you will notice in the Old Testament, there's the (a) tabernacle, (b) temple, (c) sanctuary, (d) altar but never was there a verse in the Old testament for synagogue.
GOD's instituted or institution of worship:
a. Tabernacle - instituted by GOD thru Moses

25:9 And you shall make it according to all that I show you, the pattern of the tabernacle or dwelling and the pattern of all the furniture of it.
b. Temple - instituted by Moses and used by the prophets

3:3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was lying down
c. Sanctuary - instituted by Moses and strengthened by major and minor prophets

15:17 You will bring them in [to the land] and plant them on Your own mountain, the place, O Lord, You have made for Your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.
d. Altar - very first institution of worship that GOD established, through the hand of Noah

e. synagogue - none found in the Old Testament but in His Grace and Truth, the LORD JESUS CHRIST used this to spread the Gospel.

This is the time of their destruction where Jewish leaders are figuratively "destroyed" because the Gentiles are reigning over them - the Roman government.

21:41 They said to Him, He will put those wretches to a miserable death and rent the vineyard to other tenants of such a character that they will give him the fruits promptly in their season.

The Gospel of Salvation and Grace has been preached before the Gentiles came in and were first preached to the Jews but they rejected it with unbelief.

13:46 And Paul and Barnabas spoke out plainly and boldly, saying, It was necessary that God’s message [concerning salvation through Christ] should be spoken to you first. But since you thrust it from you, you pass this judgment on yourselves that you are unworthy of eternal life and out of your own mouth you will be judged. B. The husband men replied, "May it never be!"
"When they [the chief priests and the scribes and the elders] heard this, they said, May it never be!"
Nehemiah 9:36-37 (Amplified Bible)
9:36 Behold, we are slaves this day, and as for the land that You gave to our fathers to eat the fruit and the good of it, behold, we are slaves in it.

Since the Pharisees, scribes and elders know exactly they're the ones that JESUS was referring to in His parables replied to it. They were "cut to the heart" because GOD's WORD is a double-edged sword, first it cuts the One delivering it and then it's hearers.

7:54 Now upon hearing these things, they [the Jews] were cut to the heart and infuriated, and they ground their teeth against [Stephen].
Hebrews 4:12 (Amplified Bible)
4:12 For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

If Pharisees, scribes and elders know exactly what JESUS is talking about, how come they don't approach JESUS in faith? It's because of their self-righteousness towards GOD and hypocrisy towards men.

11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].

16:7 And they reasoned among themselves about it, saying, It is because we did not bring any bread.
16:8 But Jesus, aware of this, asked, Why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you have no bread? O you [men, how little trust you have in Me, how] little faith!
16:9 Do you not yet discern (perceive and understand)? Do you not remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many [small hand] baskets you gathered?

16:11 How is it that you fail to understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But beware of the leaven (ferment) of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
16:12 Then they discerned that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
In their hypocrisy, they taught this, they taught that, but they never taught JESUS and belief in JESUS for they themselves have rejected the Chief cornerstone which is JESUS Himself.
IX. CONCLUSION:
Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for You brought Salvation and Grace to me because of the rejection of another, I don't deserve Your Grace and Mercy but I accept and receive it right now in my life for it's a Gift from You.
