12:42 It was a night of watching unto the Lord and to be much observed for bringing them out of Egypt; this same night of watching unto the Lord is to be observed by all the Israelites throughout their generations.
12:43 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the Passover: No foreigner shall eat of it;
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. When we continue to pray, we prevail
"When Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed;"
Moses symbolizes any CHRISTian who submits himself to GOD in humility.
James 4:7 (Amplified Bible)
4:7 So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you.
Numbers 12:3 (Amplified Bible)
12:3 Now the man Moses was very meek (gentle, kind, and humble) or above all the men on the face of the earth.
Jeremiah 20:11 (Amplified Bible)
20:11 But the Lord is with me as a mighty and terrible One; therefore my persecutors will stumble, and they will not overcome [me]. They will be utterly put to shame, for they will not deal wisely or prosper [in their schemes]; their eternal dishonor will never be forgotten.
1 Peter 4:7 (Amplified Bible)
4:7 But the end and culmination of all things has now come near; keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for [the practice of] prayer.
In our days, we need self-control because too many cares are bothering us that wants our attention, but focus our attention on JESUS so it's easy for us to pray.
Hebrews 12:2 (Amplified Bible)
12:2 Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
In the midst of conflict, afflictions and sufferings, learn to be self-controlled and pray continually.
Proverbs 24:10 (New Century Version)
24:10 If you give up when trouble comes, it shows that you are weak.
We never give up praying.
Illustration:
The only offensive weapon in the full armor of GOD is the WORD of GOD and Praying in tongues and all other armors are for our defense.
Ephesians 6:18 (New Century Version)
6:18 Pray in the Spirit at all times with all kinds of prayers, asking for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready and never give up. Always pray for all God’s people.
B. When we stop praying, Amalek prevailed
"and when he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed"
Amalek symbolizes "conflict" and "unprovoked attacks"
Exodus 17:8-13 (Amplified Bible)
17:8 Then came Amalek [descendants of Esau] and fought with Israel at Rephidim.
17:9 And Moses said to Joshua, Choose us out men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.
17:10 So Joshua did as Moses said and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the hilltop.
17:11 When Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; and when he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed.
17:12 But Moses’ hands were heavy and grew weary. So [the other men] took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side and one on the other side; so his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
17:13 And Joshua mowed down and disabled Amalek and his people with the sword.
Deuteronomy 25:17-18 (Amplified Bible)
25:17 Remember what Amalek did to you on the way when you had come forth from Egypt,
25:18 How he did not fear God, but when you were faint and weary he attacked you along the way and cut off all the stragglers at your rear.
Exodus 17:14 (Amplified Bible)
17:14 And the Lord said to Moses, Write this for a memorial in the book and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens.
1 Samuel 15:2-8 (Amplified Bible)
15:2 Thus says the Lord of hosts, I have considered and will punish what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way when [Israel] came out of Egypt.
15:3 Now go and smite Amalek and utterly destroy all they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.
15:4 So Saul assembled the men and numbered them at Telaim—200,000 men on foot and 10,000 men of Judah.
15:5 And Saul came to the city of Amalek and laid wait in the valley.
15:6 Saul warned the Kenites, Go, depart, get down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
15:7 Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt.
15:8 And he took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, though he utterly destroyed all the rest of the people with the sword.
Unprovoked attacks are: accidents, sudden attack from unknown people like robbers, snatchers, etc.
Conflict is defined as:
1. A striking or dashing against each other, as of two moving bodies in opposition;
2. A fighting; combat, as between men, and applicable to individuals or to armies;
3. Contention; strife; contest.
4. Struggling with difficulties; a striving to oppose, or overcome.
5. A struggling of the mind; distress; anxiety
6. The last struggle of life;
7. Opposing operations; countervailing action
Proverbs 17:1 (Amplified Bible)
17:1 BETTER IS a dry morsel with quietness than a house full of feasting [on offered sacrifices] with strife.
Proverbs 17:14 (Amplified Bible)
17:14 The beginning of strife is as when water first trickles [from a crack in a dam]; therefore stop contention before it becomes worse and quarreling breaks out.
Proverbs 20:3 (Amplified Bible)
20:3 It is an honor for a man to cease from strife and keep aloof from it, but every fool will quarrel.
Proverbs 22:10 (Amplified Bible)
22:10 Drive out the scoffer, and contention will go out; yes, strife and abuse will cease.
Don't stop praying. Always be in the spirit of prayer. Pray in every circumstance. Pray when you wake up and have your devotions first of all in the morning before and ahead of every conflict you will be facing. Pray before and after eating. In so doing, if you eat 3 times a day, you have prayed 6 times a day before and after every meal. Pray before doing each task. Separate each activities into tasks and pray before and after each of them. Live a life of prayer.
Illustration:
It's more easy to worry than pray, then pray more often and forget about worrying. Substitute prayer in every worries.
THE SOUL'S SINCERE DESIRE
Prayer is the soul's sincere desire,
Uttered or unexpressed—
The motion of a hidden fire,
That trembles in the breast.
Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
The falling of a tear,
The upward glancing of an eye,
When none but God is near. James Montgomery

4:6 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.
Zechariah 4:6 (Amplified Bible)
4:6 Then he said to me, This [addition of the bowl to the candlestick, causing it to yield a ceaseless supply of oil from the olive trees] is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit [of Whom the oil is a symbol], says the Lord of hosts.
