"Whoever finds his [lower] life will lose it [the higher life],"
Findeth or "heurisko" in Greek meaning: find, get, obtain, perceive, see.
Lose or "apollumi" in Greek meaning: to destroy fully, destroy, die, lose, perish
Matthew 16:25-26 (Amplified Bible)
16:25 For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting].
16:26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life [his blessed life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his [blessed] life [in the kingdom of God]?
Eternal life is relationship with GOD thru JESUS CHRIST, a relationship with the LORD JESUS CHRIST is eternal life itself.

17:3 And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent.

Lower life and eternal life (higher life) is like a see-saw, each on them on either side. When lower life is up, the higher life is stuck or burried in the mud. We all have capacity to have eternal life, but we all also have freewill - the freedom of choice, it's up to us, who to choose? the lower life or JESUS.
I have already witnessed several people choose the lower life right before my eyes and I'm amazed at their foolishness. Nothing can be better than eternal life with JESUS, having a relationship with JESUS and Heaven on the other side of life.

Good news is if you find eternal life with JESUS, you have fully destroyed your earthly life here on earth. The world, it's pleasures and it's cares have no more attractiveness in your eyes. Remember the cares of this world will prevent someone who heard and accepted GOD's WORDS from being fruitful.

4:19 Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age, and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless.

The LORD JESUS has reached us out for us to be with Him forever, it's our choice that is blocking us to receive eternal life, because we either love the world and it's cares, or still in the world. Remember this, we are in the world but not of the world.

Illustration:
My wife has a friend that she is leading to the LORD, she's afraid to die of cancer, so she spent all her money to be healed in chemotherapies and other medicinal practices medicine has to offer. The point is the WORD shall save her and not her money, she's being deceived by the enemy, because instead of using the money for the ministry, she already spent it on lengthening her life. This woman has already been given the WORD, she has questions about John 12:25-26. Anyone wants to prolong/lengthen his/her life here on earth? But don't let this become your motivation in life. The answer is just serve the LORD here on earth, find your ministry, get ministry involved in your church and the WORD will lengthen your life, because you are being used by GOD here on earth.
