A The global flood is a story that exists in over six hundred ancient cultures.

1 Sociologist/anthropologists tell us that the more often we see a legend or myth in various cultures, the greater the probability that the story is truth in history.

a As Bible believing Christians we accept the fact that a global flood did occur several thousands of years ago.

aa Genesis 6:13, 17 (NASB) 13 Then God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth.17 "Behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish.

bb The flood was a historical global event of God’s judgement upon a corrupt/sinful mankind.

b Luke 17.26, Jesus tells us that there would be sign, “days of Noah”, for us aware of as we anticipate the coming Day of the Lord.

Luke 17:26 (NASB) 26 "And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man:

aa It is important therefore that we know what Noah’s world was like.

bb A world (that had existed for at least 1,600 years before the flood) that was so fractured, corrupt, depraved that God determined that the only hope for humanity was to wipe people out almost completely and start again.

2 Noah’s world had a huge population.

a People lived to be very old (Noah was 600 when the flood came and lived to be at least 950 years-old.)

aa Considering that the average life span of the ancients was 400 years old AND each year afforded the opportunity for at least one live birth per couple.

bb We can estimate that the population (using the age of the world, average life span, rule-of-thumb birthrate) of Noah’s world was around 9 billion souls.

b Ron Philips, “ . . .the greater number of people in the populace, the more accelerated the evil.”

B Noah’s world had great advances in technology and civilization.

1 Cain taught the people to settle in cities instead of living as wandering nomads.

Genesis 4:17 (NASB) 17 Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son.

a The fields of mechanics & the fine arts were introduced in an effort to overcome the curse of labor. (Work hard, play hard.)

b Just a few generations after Cain, we read about Jabal, who pioneered animal husbandry.

Genesis 4:20 (NASB) 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.

aa His brother Jubal is called the “father of all those who play the harp & flute.

Genesis 4:21 (NASB) 21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.

bb Their brother, Tubal-Cain, instructed in the craft of metallurgy.

Genesis 4:22 (NASB) 22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

cc In the “days of Noah” we see 1) Population explosion; 2) Increase in technology & the arts; 3) Development of technology to ease the work load.

2 The Great Pyramid at Giza is believed by many to have built prior to the Flood (& was renovated & expanded by the Pharaoh Khufu).

a They point to its structure, setting, to science. (Don is preaching on the pyramids next week).

b The written word was also increasing.

aa The Assyrian library of Aggade was established by the Akkadian king Sargon in Uruk, called “the city of books”, as early as 2650 BC.

bb The library consisted of ancient books, tablets, scrolls, and art.

cc According to the ancient historian Berossus, it was here that Noah buried in waterproof containers the contents of the ancient library and disentombed it after the Flood.

C The Corruption in the Days of Noah

1 Earlier, I mentioned that the estimated population of Noah’s world was around 7 billion, but not all that population were just humans.

a Genesis 6:1-2 (NASB) 1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

aa In this passage we see the intermarriage of the descendants of Cain & Seth with embodied demons.

bb The offspring of these unions produced a race of people called “giants” by the English Bible.

b Their offspring, called Nephilim, which means “fallen ones” occupied the land of Canaan (According to Flavius Josephus and Philo Judaeus).

Numbers 13:32-33 (NASB) 32 So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size. 33 "There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."

aa The Nephilim were a hybrid race prior to the Flood.

bb It is possible that these beings could have been the mythological gods of ancient times.

cc This race brought vile immorality, crime, terror, and war to the earth.

2 It was David, the mighty giant killer, who we assume, finally wiped them out . . . sealing this demonic pit.

a The giants were active before the Flood and in seizing Canaan during the Exodus.

b In the last days this pit will be re-opened, and the Antichrist will be the seed of Satan born to a woman. (A counterfeit Messiah)

D The Nephilim

1 If one ever wondered why the Flood happened, one need to look first at this mystery race of fallen angels.

a This explains the order of God to the inhabitants of Canaan . . . many of them were not fully human.

aa The goal of the enemy in the hybrid blood line is that demons, fallen angels, Satan are beyond redemption . . . can’t be saved.

bb The enemy’s goal was to corrupt the human bloodline beyond the point of redemption by co-mingling it with unredeemable blood.

b For the sake of clarity, the initial population of Nephilim were eliminated by the Flood, but the abomination happened again.

aa Genesis 6:4 (KJV) 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. -EMPHASIS ADDED

bb This indicates that after the Flood these fallen angels came again and procreated with the “daughters of men.”

cc This is not just a legend, myth . . . it really happened.

2 The Nephilim are “the elephant in the room” for the archeological, anthropological, and scientific communities.

a In 1692, a skeleton was found near Angers, France measuring 17 feet, 4 inches.

aa In 1950 in the Euphrates Valley of Southeast Turkey several tombs were found containing full skeletons of giants 14 to 16 feet tall.

bb Digs in China have uncovered skeletal remains of giants over 15 feet tall.

b Non-skeletal remains also give testimony to the fact of an ancient race of giants.

aa At the Heraklion Archaeological Museum in Crete, there is an axe that is 5 feet in length . . . shows signs it was used in battle.

bb In North Wales (Great Orme Copper Mine) sledgehammers of over 60 lbs. a piece have been found (with handles would have been approximately nine feet long.)

c Psalm 85:11 (KJV) “Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.”

aa How amazing it is that God’s truth is today springing from the earth!

bb The reason this is not taught in schools & universities is because it flies in the face of modern science.

E Callousness of Noah’s Day

1 For the 100 years it took Noah to build the ark, he continually warned people about the coming flood but no one listened to his warnings.

a People just went about their business-as-usual lives not giving a second thought about Noah’s warnings.

b We know from Jude 14-15 that Enoch preached/warned the people.

aa Jude 1:14-15 (KJV) 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

bb The problem wasn’t in the preaching or the warnings . . . the problem wasn’t even in the truth.

cc People just didn’t want to listen to the warnings!!

2 There is callousness in our society to the warnings in the heavens, pulpit, signs of the times.

a There are good churches, great preaching, better technology, methods for reaching people with the Gospel.

b People are not wanting to listen to the warnings!!!

F The Mystery Revealed

1 In the last 200 years there has been a population explosion.

a In 1800, the estimated population of the world was approximately 1 billion; 1900 the population had not yet reached 2 billion.

aa In 1950 the number (2.5 billion) began to rapidly increase.

bb By 2000 there were 6 billion of us, and in 2010 that number had grown to 7 billion.

cc It is projected that by 2100, the world population will be at 10 billion people.

b The 20th century has shown dramatic increases in technology.

aa Computers used to be as big as a small house and now we hold them in our pockets.

bb The phone you have in your pocket/purse has more speed/capabilities than the computers that put man on the moon!!

2 It is so easy to see what God meant when He said of the people gathered at the Tower of Babel.

Genesis 11:6 (NASB) 6 The LORD said, "Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they propose to do will be impossible for them.

a With the increase in population & technology, let’s consider Daniel’s prophecy:

Daniel 12:1-4 (NASB) 1 "Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued. 2 "Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt. 3 "Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. 4 "But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase."

b Jesus pointed to the “days of Noah” as a sign of the end times.

aa Before He comes again, the Enoch generation will be raptured while the end-times Jewish generation will go through the Flood (or the time of Tribulation).

bb Jesus points to this in Luke 17.20-27

Luke 17:20-27 (NASB)

20 Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God was coming, He answered them and said, "The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; 21 nor will they say, 'Look, here it is!' or, 'There it is!' For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst." 22 And He said to the disciples, "The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 "They will say to you, 'Look there! Look here!' Do not go away, and do not run after them. 24 "For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day. 25 "But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. 26 "And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

3 Do not be among those who don’t see the signs of Jesus’s coming.

a Noah preached to the lost of his day for over a century.

b Today the mystery is revealed to us so that no one will endure the flood without due warning and knowledge that Jesus has prepared a way for us to escape the coming flood of judgement.
