PROCRASTINATION
OBSERVATION: THE WORD PROCRASTINATION MEANS TO PUT OFF FROM DAY TO DAY, TO DELAY, DO DELAY ACTION (WEBSTER’S DICTIONARY). THERE ARE TIMES WHEN DECISION MAKING PRODUCES COMPLEX ISSUES. HOWEVER, SOME ISSUES DEMAND RESOLUTION IMMEDIATELY. THIS STUDY ADDRESSES HALF-HEARTED FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST.
INTERPRETATION: LUKE 9:62 (NKJV) BUT JESUS SAID TO HIM, NO ONE, HAVING PUT HIS HAND TO THE PLOW, AND LOOKING BACK, IF FIT FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD. LUKE 9:62 (AMPLIFIED BIBLE) JESUS SAID UNTO HIM, NO ONE WHO PUTS HIS HAND TO THE PLOW AND LOOKS BACK (TO THE THINGS BEHIND) IS FIT FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
POINTS TO PONDER:
ANCIENT AGRARIAN FARMERS USED A SINGLE PLOW TO WORK THEIR FIELDS. ONE HAND GUIDED THE PLOW WHILE THE OTHER HAND GUIDED THE ANIMAL PULLING THE PLOW. A GOOD PLOWMAN LOOKED FORWARD RATHER THAN BACKWARD GUARANTEEING A STRAIGHT FURROW.
THE FOLLOWING WORDS DESCRIBE A BELIEVERS FORWARD DISPOSITION: GOSPEL, PRODUCTIVE HARVEST, FOCUSED, ORGANIZED, UNDIVIDED HEART, EARNEST, STEADFAST, FAITHFUL, KINGDOM LIVING.
THE SPIRITUALLY DEAD, WHOSE INTEREST ARE ONLY IN THIS LIFE, LOOKS AFTER EVERYDAY LIFE MATTERS: DISCIPLES OF CHRIST ATTEND TO THE KINGDOM OF GOD MATTERS (LUKE 9:59-60).
JESUS REMARK ABOUT BEING FIT FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD DEMONSTRATES THE SERIOUSNESS OF COMMITMENT TO HIM. PUTTING YOUR HAND TO THE PLOW MEANS ENGAGING THE TASK BEFORE YOU. THE TASK SPEAKS OF SERVING IN HIS KINGDOM.
APPLICATION: BE FIT FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD. PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST BY ALL MEANS. NEVER PROCRASTINATE OR LOOK BACK!
