I. EXORDIUM
Are you thankful to the LORD? Yes. Then turn it into praises.
II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:
Believers
III. OBJECTIVES:
To show that the LORD deserves all the thanksgiving this world can offer, and it's not enough because of His Goodness, Mercy, Loving-kindness that endures forever.
IV. TEXT:
Psalms 118:29 (Amplified Bible)
118:29 O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever.
V. THESIS:
Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for You are Good, Always Good, for Your Mercy and Loving-kindness endures forever.
VI. TITLE:
Give thanks to the LORD
VII. EXPLICATION:
A. Authors: Authorship of many is uncertain, generally attributed to King David.
B. Date written: c. 1440 to 450 B.C. ( From Moses to Ezra)
C. Purpose: 150 songs to praise and worship GOD
D. To whom written: Sometimes to GOD, sometimes to author
E. Main Themes: praise and worship, prayer and praise
VIII. MAIN BODY:
Give thanks, Praise or "yadah" in Hebrew means:
1. to use the hand
2. physically to throw (a stone, or arrow) at or away
3. to revere or worship (with extended hands)
4. to make confession
5. to give thanks (thankfulness)
When you combine all these definitions, we conclude that giving thanks is not a still matter, wherein you don't move with your body. You enter into a stilled, motionless state, that's not about it. That is tradition.
What the bible teaches is when you thank the LORD, "you stretch out your hand towards heaven like throwing a stone or arrow, and with your mouth you declare GOD's goodness and your heart is filled with thankfulness, a heart filled with attitude of gratitude upon GOD's goodness with bowed heads in adoration" Praise or giving thanks to the LORD is very demonstrative.
Well, you might say, I'm a silent-type of a person and I don't show up public display of affection (PDA), well keep your opinion to yourself, if you want to obey the bible, then follow it with all your heart, don't show PDA to your boyfriend, or girlfriend but show PDA to the LORD.
Psalms 28:2 (Amplified Bible)
28:2 Hear the voice of my supplication as I cry to You for help, as I lift up my hands toward Your innermost sanctuary (the Holy of Holies).
Psalms 88:9 (Amplified Bible)
88:9 My eye grows dim because of sorrow and affliction. Lord, I have called daily on You; I have spread forth my hands to You.
Psalms 119:48 (Amplified Bible)
119:48 My hands also will I lift up [in fervent supplication] to Your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on Your statutes.
Psalms 134:2 (Amplified Bible)
134:2 Lift up your hands in holiness and to the sanctuary and bless the Lord [affectionately and gratefully praise Him]!
Psalms 141:2 (Amplified Bible)
141:2 Let my prayer be set forth as incense before You, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
A. The LORD is good
"O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;"
Good or "tob" in Hebrew meaning:
1. good (as an adjective) used in the widest sense
2. good (as an adverb) described as beautiful, best, better, bountiful, cheerful, fair, favour, fine, glad, kindness, most pleasant, precious, prosperity, wealth, welfare, favoured
Only the LORD GOD is Good and no one else because all people have sinned and fell short of GOD's standard of goodness, we're not talking about self-made man's standard of goodness, like when a gay married to another gay, and the other gay died before the other one and the gay left behind said in his funeral, "he's a good man!" and what about you? a good woman?!!" but we all know he's just talking like that to comfort himself with the loss of another man in his life. What a blasphemy?
Romans 3:23 (Amplified Bible)
3:23 Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.
Romans 3:9 (Amplified Bible)
3:9 Well then, are we [Jews] superior and better off than they? No, not at all. We have already charged that all men, both Jews and Greeks (Gentiles), are under sin [held down by and subject to its power and control].
Well, an atheist might say, "well I believe there's inherent goodness in every man", keep your opinions to yourself, but we want the Bible, what the Bible has to say and teach is not man's opinions, they are GOD's WORDS and they have the final say in everything here on earth and heaven, GOD has the final say, where you go after you die, heaven or hell. ONLY THE LORD GOD IS GOOD.
Romans 3:19 (Amplified Bible)
3:19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that [the murmurs and excuses of] every mouth may be hushed and all the world may be held accountable to God.
Romans 1:28-32 (Amplified Bible)
1:28 And so, since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or approve of Him or consider Him worth the knowing, God gave them over to a base and condemned mind to do things not proper or decent but loathsome,
1:29 Until they were filled (permeated and saturated) with every kind of unrighteousness, iniquity, grasping and covetous greed, and malice. [They were] full of envy and jealousy, murder, strife, deceit and treachery, ill will and cruel ways. [They were] secret backbiters and gossipers,
1:30 Slanderers, hateful to and hating God, full of insolence, arrogance, [and] boasting; inventors of new forms of evil, disobedient and undutiful to parents.
1:31 [They were] without understanding, conscienceless and faithless, heartless and loveless [and] merciless.
1:32 Though they are fully aware of God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them themselves but approve and applaud others who practice them.
Romans 2:1-16 (Amplified Bible)
2:1 THEREFORE YOU have no excuse or defense or justification, O man, whoever you are who judges and condemns another. For in posing as judge and passing sentence on another, you condemn yourself, because you who judge are habitually practicing the very same things [that you censure and denounce].
2:2 [But] we know that the judgment (adverse verdict, sentence) of God falls justly and in accordance with truth upon those who practice such things.
2:3 And do you think or imagine, O man, when you judge and condemn those who practice such things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape God’s judgment and elude His sentence and adverse verdict?
2:4 Or are you [so blind as to] trifle with and presume upon and despise and underestimate the wealth of His kindness and forbearance and long-suffering patience? Are you unmindful or actually ignorant [of the fact] that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repent (to change your mind and inner man to accept God’s will)?
2:5 But by your callous stubbornness and impenitence of heart you are storing up wrath and indignation for yourself on the day of wrath and indignation, when God’s righteous judgment (just doom) will be revealed.
2:6 For He will render to every man according to his works [justly, as his deeds deserve]:
2:7 To those who by patient persistence in well-doing [springing from piety] seek [unseen but sure] glory and honor and [the eternal blessedness of] immortality, He will give eternal life.
2:8 But for those who are self-seeking and self-willed and disobedient to the Truth but responsive to wickedness, there will be indignation and wrath.
2:9 [And] there will be tribulation and anguish and calamity and constraint for every soul of man who [habitually] does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek (Gentile).
2:10 But glory and honor and [heart] peace shall be awarded to everyone who [habitually] does good, the Jew first and also the Greek (Gentile).
2:11 For God shows no partiality [undue favor or unfairness; with Him one man is not different from another].
2:12 All who have sinned without the Law will also perish without [regard to] the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged and condemned by the Law.
2:13 For it is not merely hearing the Law [read] that makes one righteous before God, but it is the doers of the Law who will be held guiltless and acquitted and justified.
2:14 When Gentiles who have not the [divine] Law do instinctively what the Law requires, they are a law to themselves, since they do not have the Law.
2:15 They show that the essential requirements of the Law are written in their hearts and are operating there, with which their consciences (sense of right and wrong) also bear witness; and their [moral] decisions (their arguments of reason, their condemning or approving thoughts) will accuse or perhaps defend and excuse [them]
2:16 On that day when, as my Gospel proclaims, God by Jesus Christ will judge men in regard to the things which they conceal (their hidden thoughts).
When the LORD JESUS CHRIST has been given full authority and chance to prove Himself, He never took it, He's the SON OF GOOD, the Only Begotten Son of GOD, and when confronted about His goodness, all He can say about Himself is "Why do you call Me [essentially and perfectly morally] good? There is no one [essentially and perfectly morally] good—except God alone."
Matthew 19:17 (Amplified Bible)
19:17 And He said to him, Why do you ask Me about the perfectly and essentially good? There is only One Who is good [perfectly and essentially]—God. If you would enter into the Life, you must continually keep the commandments.
Mark 10:17-18 (Amplified Bible)
10:17 And as He was setting out on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him and asked Him, Teacher, [You are essentially and perfectly morally] good, what must I do to inherit eternal life [that is, to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah’s kingdom]?
10:18 And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me [essentially and perfectly morally] good? There is no one [essentially and perfectly morally] good—except God alone.
Luke 18:18-19 (Amplified Bible)
18:18 And a certain ruler asked Him, Good Teacher [You who are essentially and perfectly morally good], what shall I do to inherit eternal life [to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah’s kingdom]?
18:19 Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me [essentially and perfectly morally] good? No one is [essentially and perfectly morally] good—except God only.
Only the LORD GOD IS GOOD!
Psalms 73:1 (Amplified Bible)
73:1 A Psalm of Asaph. TRULY GOD is [only] good to Israel, even to those who are upright and pure in heart.
Psalms 34:8 (Amplified Bible)
34:8 O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him.
And read again the testimony and witness of the 3 gospels: Matthew, Mark and Luke, they all said "only GOD is GOOD" Praise GOD for His Goodness!
B. The LORD's mercy and loving-kindness endure forever
"for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever."
Isaiah 63:7 (Amplified Bible)
63:7 I will recount the loving-kindnesses of the Lord and the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has bestowed on us, and the great goodness to the house of Israel, which He has granted them according to His mercy and according to the multitude of His loving-kindnesses.
Ezra 3:11 (Amplified Bible)
3:11 They sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord, saying, For He is good, for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid!
Psalms 103:17 (Amplified Bible)
103:17 But the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord are from everlasting to everlasting upon those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, and His righteousness is to children’s children—
IX. CONCLUSION:
Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for You are Good, Always Good, for Your Mercy and Loving-kindness endures forever.
