We are transformed by His revealing character.
Exodus 3:13-14
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said , Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
John 8:57-59
57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by .
Introduction:
In Gen 12, God begins to deal w/Abraham about leaving his father’s house and his hometown
Leave family - but I’ll give you family
Leave homeland - but I’ll give you land
Leave father’s house - make your name great
Abraham has to be wondering if he can make good...
It’s important to know who you are dealing with...
Genesis 17:1-6
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful , and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
At Establishing of Covenant God intro’d himself as the Almighty
From the outset of this relationship with the Lord,
It’s important to understand who He is --
And He wants Abraham to know he is the Almighty God
As opposed to the gods of Abraham’s father
1. All Should Know of His Might - It’s Obvious
Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
2. Power Over All - It’s Obvious
Genesis 1
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
9 And God said , Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear : and it was so.
11 And God said , Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
14 And God said , Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
24 And God said , Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
HE HAS POWER OVER ALL! WHEN HE SAYS IT, IT IS SO!
3. It’s Within His Power to Make Good On His Promises
There are times, when the Lord speaks something that is too difficult for us to believe...
Bc His Almighty is much more than we can understand
Genesis 18:9-14
9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
10 And he said , I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying , After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying , Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
It shouldn’t be hard for us to believe in Him!
His promises are Yea and Amen! (Yes, So Be It)
All power in Heaven & Earth is given unto Him!
There is nothing too hard for our God!
4. Salvation Is Only Possible Thru The Almighty
Death has passed upon all men
We have no power within ourselves to save us
Matthew 19:21-26
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast , and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed , saying, Who then can be saved?
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
1 Corinthians 6:14 (NIV) By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.
5. Who Can Understand All His Power?
Job 26:9-14
9 He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
10 He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.
12 He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.
13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand ?
6. We Don’t Know What Lies In Eternity
Matthew 22:24-30
24 Saying , Master, Moses said , If a man die , having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife , deceased , and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
27 And last of all the woman died also.
28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err , not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry , nor are given in marriage , but are as the angels of God in heaven.
The power of God, his majesty and the things that await for us will exceed anything our natural mind can comprehend!
Passes all understanding!
7. Almighty Exceeds What We Can Ask, Think, Comprehend!
Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think , according to the power that worketh in us
1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen , nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
It passes all understanding!
8. His Almighty Glory Will Light New Jerusalem
Revelation 21:21-27
21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
22 And I saw no temple therein : for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth , neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
Conclusion:
Revelation 19:6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
