I. EXORDIUM:
Do you still have wrong concept about GOD, His Words, and JESUS?
II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:
Believers
III. OBJECTIVES:
To show the wrong concept and deal with them one by one and to learn what is the correct concept according to GOD's WORDS.
IV. TEXT:
Job 8:1-22 (Amplified Bible)
8:1 THEN ANSWERED Bildad the Shuhite,
8:2 How long will you say these things [Job]? And how long shall the words of your mouth be as a mighty wind?
8:3 Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness?
8:4 If your children have sinned against Him, then He has delivered them into the power of their transgression.
8:5 If you will seek God diligently and make your supplication to the Almighty,
8:6 Then, if you are pure and upright, surely He will bestir Himself for you and make your righteous dwelling prosperous again.
8:7 And though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would greatly increase.
8:8 For inquire, I pray you, of the former age and apply yourself to that which their fathers have searched out,
8:9 For we are but of yesterday and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow.
8:10 Shall not [the forefathers] teach you and tell you and utter words out of their hearts (the deepest part of their nature)?
8:11 Can the rush or papyrus grow up without marsh? Can the flag or reed grass grow without water?
8:12 While it is yet green, in flower, and not cut down, it withers before any other herb [when without water].
8:13 So are the ways of all who forget God; and the hope of the godless shall perish.
8:14 For his confidence breaks, and [the object of] his trust is a spider’s web.
8:15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand; he shall hold fast to it, but it shall not last.
8:16 He is green before the sun, and his shoots go forth over his garden.
8:17 [Godless] his roots are wrapped about the [stone] heap, and see their way [promisingly] among the rocks.
8:18 But if [God] snatches him from his property, [then having passed into the hands of others] it [his property] will forget and deny him, [saying,] I have never seen you [before, as if ashamed of him—like his former friends].
8:19 See, this is the joy of going the way [of the ungodly]! And from the dust others will spring up [to take his place].
8:20 Behold, as surely as God will never uphold wrongdoers, He will never cast away a blameless man.
8:21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter [Job] and your lips with joyful shouting.
8:22 Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tents of the wicked shall be no more.
V. THESIS:
Thank You very much, LORD JESUS, because of the HOLY SPIRIT in me that teaches me everything about You. All my concepts about You are not merely concepts but experiences with JESUS in and thru His Words.
VI. TITLE:
Wrong concept of GOD from Bildad
VII. EXPLICATION:
A. Author: unknown
B. Date written: Not clear. Regarded by many scholars as oldest book in the Bible
C. Place: the land of Uz
D. Purpose: To illustrate God's absolute sovereignty over the affairs of the world and, consequentially, to elicit trust in His ultimate goodness, especially from those found in the midst of suffering.—Thompson Chain - Bible Book Outlines
E. To whom written: people everywhere, especially to those who suffer
F. Main Theme: the problem of Job's affliction
G. Key word: Sovereignty
H. Key verses:
Job 2:3 (Amplified Bible)
2:3 And the Lord said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who [reverently] fears God and abstains from and shuns all evil [because it is wrong]? And still he holds fast his integrity, although you moved Me against him to destroy him without cause.
Job 19:25-26 (Amplified Bible)
19:25 For I know that my Redeemer and Vindicator lives, and at last He [the Last One] will stand upon the earth.
19:26 And after my skin, even this body, has been destroyed, then from my flesh or without it I shall see God,
Concept - notion, or abtract, Notion and idea are primarily different; idea being the conception of something visible, as the idea of a square or a triangle; and notion the conception of things invisible or intellectual, as the notion we have of spirits. But from negligence in the use of idea, the two words are constantly confounded.
Try to get the example of banks, to know the fake money, they study and memorize the fake. For us, we need to know and point the fakes, and wrong concepts to live out the right.
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. Wrong concept of GOD that came from mouth of Bildad, one of Job's three friends:
1. GOD does not deliver us to the penalty of our sins - Correct: CHRIST paid for the penalty of our sins (Job 8:4)
Job 8:4 (Amplified Bible)
8:4 If your children have sinned against Him, then He has delivered them into the power of their transgression.
Job 8:4 (Contemporary English Version)
He made your children pay for their sins.
Psalms 103:10 (Amplified Bible)
103:10 He has not dealt with us after our sins nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (Amplified Bible)
5:21 For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].
In the Old testament, the blood of bulls and goats covers up (atones) for the sins of men. In the meantime, GOD allowed sins of men in the old testament to be covered up but not taken away or forgiven.
Hebrews 9:13 (Amplified Bible)
9:13 For if [the mere] sprinkling of unholy and defiled persons with blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a burnt heifer is sufficient for the purification of the body,
Hebrews 10:4 (Amplified Bible)
10:4 Because the blood of bulls and goats is powerless to take sins away.
Acts 17:30-31 (Amplified Bible)
17:30 Such [former] ages of ignorance God, it is true, ignored and allowed to pass unnoticed; but now He charges all people everywhere to repent (to change their minds for the better and heartily to amend their ways, with abhorrence of their past sins),
17:31 Because He has fixed a day when He will judge the world righteously (justly) by a Man Whom He has destined and appointed for that task, and He has made this credible and given conviction and assurance and evidence to everyone by raising Him from the dead.
Acts 17:30-31 (The Message)
17:30 "God overlooks it as long as you don't know any better—but that time is past. The unknown is now known, and he's calling for a radical life-change.
17:31 He has set a day when the entire human race will be judged and everything set right. And he has already appointed the judge, confirming him before everyone by raising him from the dead."
2. We don't repent because of someone else's bad experiences. (Job 8:5) Correct: We repent because of the WORD of GOD. (Job 8:5)
Job 8:5 (Contemporary English Version)
So why don't you turn to him
Before water baptism in the time of John, the Baptist, John still need first to preach GOD's WORDS,
Acts 13:24 (Amplified Bible)
13:24 Before His coming John had [already] preached baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
First, Paul still need to preach, before they repent. Repentance is just a change of mind toward GOD, His Words.
Acts 19:4 (Amplified Bible)
19:4 And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, continually telling the people that they should believe in the One Who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus [having a conviction full of joyful trust that He is Christ, the Messiah, and being obedient to Him].
What Paul requires from Timothy:
2 Timothy 2:25 (Amplified Bible)
2:25 He must correct his opponents with courtesy and gentleness, in the hope that God may grant that they will repent and come to know the Truth [that they will perceive and recognize and become accurately acquainted with and acknowledge it],
3. Living right will not rescue and restore us. (Job 8:6) Correct: It's a walk of faith all by GOD'S Grace. (Job 8:6)
Job 8:6 (Contemporary English Version)
and start living right? Then he will decide to rescue and restore you to your place of honor.
CHRISTianity is not living right, it's walking by faith thru Grace. It's not our works, or our accomplishments that will earn us the rescue and restoration of GOD, it's GOD's grace, no human effort is accepted by GOD, it's all Divine effort.
Ephesians 2:8-10 (The Message)
2:8 Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It's God's gift from start to finish!
2:9 We don't play the major role. If we did, we'd probably go around bragging that we'd done the whole thing!
2:10 No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.
Matthew 19:26 (Amplified Bible)
19:26 But Jesus looked at them and said, With men this is impossible, but all things are possible with God.
Luke 18:27 (Amplified Bible)
18:27 But He said, What is impossible with men is possible with God.
CHRIST' salvation is not earned it's a gift. The payment is for those who works, but the gift are for those who receives. If you say and believe until now that CHRISTianity is just living right in the sight of GOD and man, then change your mind. No right life on earth, all are false and all have sinned, how in the first place can you live right if all are born into sin?
Romans 3:23 (Amplified Bible)
3:23 Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.
We don't earn GOD's favor and blessings, it's a gift from GOD like all other gifts, it depends on the generosity of the Giver who is GOD, and the recipients has no other choice but to accept or reject it. It's not because of what we have done, otherwise, we can be proud of it and blame GOD if we are not blessed or favored but it all rests on GOD's Divine effort not on human effort.
4. We don't learn from our ancestors. Correct: we learn only from the WORD of GOD. (Job 8:8)
Job 8:8 (Contemporary English Version)
Our ancestors were wise, so learn from them.
It's like saying we learn from the experience of others, or we learn from the experience of our ancestors. As I remember, a country with a different religion where they worship their ancestors and ask guidance from them for their decisions.
If our ancestors died without accepting the LORD JESUS, no matter how wise they are when they're living, it will all turn to nothing and we can't ask guidance from them.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 (Amplified Bible)
9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol (the place of the dead), where you are going.
Where do we learn then? As CHRISTians, the bible told us to learn from the WORD, to summarize all of it:
a. We learn from what is written in the WORD of GOD
1 Corinthians 4:6 (Amplified Bible)
4:6 Now I have applied all this [about parties and factions] to myself and Apollos for your sakes, brethren, so that from what I have said of us [as illustrations], you may learn [to think of men in accordance with Scripture and] not to go beyond that which is written, that none of you may be puffed up and inflated with pride and boast in favor of one [minister and teacher] against another.
Deuteronomy 17:19 (Amplified Bible)
17:19 And he shall keep it with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn [reverently] to fear the Lord his God, by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes and doing them,
b. We learn from the parables of JESUS
Mark 13:28 (Amplified Bible)
13:28 Now learn a lesson from the fig tree: as soon as its branch becomes tender and it puts forth its leaves, you recognize and know that summer is near.
c. We learn from JESUS
Matthew 11:29 (Amplified Bible)
11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.
d. We learn from the Old Testament prophets
Matthew 9:13 (Amplified Bible)
9:13 Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy [that is, readiness to help those in trouble] and not sacrifice and sacrificial victims. For I came not to call and invite [to repentance] the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), but sinners (the erring ones and all those not free from sin).
Hosea 6:6 (Amplified Bible)
6:6 For I desire and delight in dutiful steadfast love and goodness, not sacrifice, and the knowledge of and acquaintance with God more than burnt offerings.
e. We learn by obeying GOD's WORDS, instructions and commands
Jeremiah 35:13 (Amplified Bible)
35:13 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Go and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction and listen to My words and obey them? says the Lord.
Psalms 119:73 (Amplified Bible)
119:73 Your hands have made me, cunningly fashioned and established me; give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.
Psalms 119:7 (Amplified Bible)
119:7 I will praise and give thanks to You with uprightness of heart when I learn [by sanctified experiences] Your righteous judgments [Your decisions against and punishments for particular lines of thought and conduct].
Deuteronomy 5:1 (Amplified Bible)
5:1 AND MOSES called all Israel, and said to them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances which I speak in your hearing this day, that you may learn them and take heed and do them.
Deuteronomy 4:10 (Amplified Bible)
4:10 Especially how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God in Horeb, the Lord said to me, Gather the people together to Me and I will make them hear My words, that they may learn [reverently] to fear Me all the days they live upon the earth and that they may teach their children.
f. We learn from GOD's Grace
Isaiah 26:10 (Amplified Bible)
26:10 Though favor is shown to the wicked, yet they do not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness they deal perversely and refuse to see the majesty of the Lord.
g. We learn from GOD
Judges 18:5 (Amplified Bible)
18:5 And they said to him, Ask counsel, we pray you, of God that we may know whether our journey will be successful.
Deuteronomy 31:12-13 (Amplified Bible)
31:12 Assemble the people—men, women, and children, and the stranger and the sojourner within your towns—that they may hear and learn [reverently] to fear the Lord your God and be watchful to do all the words of this law,
31:13 And that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn [reverently] to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land which you go over the Jordan to possess.
The Source of Wisdom is JESUS Himself, He is Wisdom and Power from GOD. We learn from JESUS and His WORDS.
1 Corinthians 1:24 (Amplified Bible)
1:24 But to those who are called, whether Jew or Greek (Gentile), Christ [is] the Power of God and the Wisdom of God.
Do not learn from the following:
a. ways of the nations
Jeremiah 10:2 (Amplified Bible)
10:2 Thus says the Lord: Learn not the way of the [heathen] nations and be not dismayed at the signs of the heavens, though they are dismayed at them,
Deuteronomy 18:9 (Amplified Bible)
18:9 When you come into the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of these nations.
b. scoffer - the bible says the simple learn from the floggings of mocker or scoffer, but we are not simple or natural man, we are spiritual man.
Proverbs 19:25 (Amplified Bible)
19:25 Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; reprove a man of understanding, and he will increase in knowledge.
1 Corinthians 2:15 (Amplified Bible)
2:15 But the spiritual man tries all things [he examines, investigates, inquires into, questions, and discerns all things], yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one [he can read the meaning of everything, but no one can properly discern or appraise or get an insight into him].
5. There's no innocent or perfect person on earth without CHRIST. (Job 8:20) Correct: All are sinners.
Job 8:20 (Contemporary English Version)
We know God doesn't reject an innocent person or help a sinner.
Romans 3:23 (Amplified Bible)
3:23 Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.
We are all sinners thru (a) the Adamic sinful nature, (b) thru what we do on earth, (c) we are all literally born into sin. But GOD in His Grace, Mercy and Kindness made us perfect thru CHRIST JESUS. But JESUS CHRIST is not yet revealed in the Old Testament so therefore, no one can be made perfect yet in the Old Testament.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (Amplified Bible)
12:9 But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!
Hebrews 7:11 (Amplified Bible)
7:11 Now if perfection (a perfect fellowship between God and the worshiper) had been attainable by the Levitical priesthood—for under it the people were given the Law—why was it further necessary that there should arise another and different kind of Priest, one after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one appointed after the order and rank of Aaron?
IX. CONCLUSION:
Thank You very much, LORD JESUS, because of the HOLY SPIRIT in me that teaches me everything about You. All my concepts about You are not merely concepts but experiences with JESUS in and thru His Words.
1 John 2:27 (Amplified Bible)
2:27 But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do].
