Summary: The control of of the tongue is the vital to the health and well being of the whole man, and what we say should not be treated lightly. With the Holy Spirit in control, our words can bring healing, health and life, rather death and destruction!

Little insignificant-looking things affect big things

Insignificant, seemingly harmless things, can cause great destruction and damage.

Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes. Song of Solomon 2:15 KJV

Mouth worries does not remain in the mouth but affects the whole body! We use our tongues unconsciously the majority of our lives. It moves with the inclination of the soul, because it has been accustomed to do so all our natural lives.

Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. 13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. James 3:4-13 KJV

Who is at the helm? Who's in control of the tongue? Who directs your life?

The rudder steers the ship, and the tongue steers the person. The direction they go is determined by who is in charge of the steering.

In the hands of a skilled helmsman the ship is made to go in the desired direction. The ship may be driven by fierce winds, which will toss and drive the ship in whatever direction they please, but with the rudder in the hands a skilled helmsman, the ship can be steered in the direction of choice.

Our tongue talk affects our spiritual walk

The tongue can be a killer or a life giver! It all depends on how it is used and Who controls it!

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21 KJV

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Ephesians 4:29 KJV

For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Luke 6:43-45 KJV

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. Proverbs 15:4 KJV

We too may be driven by fierce winds that, if given the opportunity, will toss us to and fro. However with the Spirit anointed control of our tongues, we will be able to speak life and not death to ourselves and others.

The Tongue Tamer! The Holy Spirit is our Guide.

We cannot tame our tongues! Only the Holy Spirit can! He is the Guide on the Way we walk and He is the Helmsman on our rudder to steer our talk! IF WE ALLOW HIM!!!

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. John 16:13 KJV

But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. 1 John 2:27 KJV

The Holy Spirit take the Word of God and applies them to our lives.

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. 2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; 3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? Hebrews 2:1-4 KJV

Since we were born into this world, we have been ruled by our flesh and soul.

When we were born again into the kingdom of God, our spirit came alive through the indwelling Holy Spirit.

While our soul and body continue to pull downward, minding the things of the flesh, our spirit is inclined heavenward and mind the things of the spirit. We have to make a constant choice about which direction we will incline toward. When we allow the Holy Spirit to be in control, He takes Word of God and separates the soulish from the spiritual. He steers and enables us to speak the words of life. We ignore Him at our own peril!

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 KJV

Remember what is in the heart issues through the mouth! Determine in yourself to speak the words of life. Determine to speak the Word of God. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. 4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. Psalms 141:3-4 KJV
