HABBAKUK 2:2-3
I. INTRODUCTION - ”WALT & RAY
Their names were Walt and Ray.
It was the first time away from home for Walt. It was the first time away from home for Ray.
They were in the army now. Their bunks were just a few feet from each other. They got up early together¦they marched together¦ they did K.P. together.
Even in those days, they both had it. But Walt didnt know that Ray had it, and Ray didnt know that Walt had it. What they both had was vision.
They were only in those barracks together for a few months, and then they got separate orders, and their brief friendship cam to an end.
Even though their friendship ended they never lost their vision.
Walt who was always drawing in his spare time didnt take long to make his mark. He was a fast starter. But Walt had too much vision to be just an artist.
He had enough vision to turn those doodles into Mickey Mouse, and enough vision to turn Mickey Mouse into a studio, and enough vision to turn the Walt Disney Studios into Disneyland, and enough vision before he died to lay out the plans for Epcot and Disney World in Florida. No doubt about it Walt Disney was a man who had vision.
But what about Ray? Ray didnt come out of the blocks as fast as Walt did. He was doing just fine in the business that he was as a matter of fact the top seller in his business. But he didnt come into his own until he pulled into the hamburger stand in San Bernardino that was owned by the McDonald brothers.
Ray sold multi mixer milk shake machines around the country to diners and small restaurants. Most of those mom and pop operations had one multi-mixer with five spindles that could make five shakes.
The McDonald brothers had eight multi-mixers going full blast from start to close. Plus they had developed a system that turned out fifteen cent burgers and French fries like Chevys coming off a Detroit assembly line.
But Ray had the vision to see what the McDonald brothers could not see. He was fifty-two years old, and he had diabetes and arthritis. But he still had a vision.
And Ray Kroc drove out of San Bernardino with a contract that gave him the right to do what the McDonald brothers didnt think they could do and didnt want to try. And the rest is history.
Two young guys sitting on their bunks in a dusty old army barracks no one would have guessed that those two young soldiers would be two of the greatest visionaries in the history of America.
II. BODY A DESCRIPTION OF VISION
Vision is the act or power of anticipating that which will or may come to be: a vivid, imaginative conception or anticipation; the manner in which one sees or conceives of something. A mental image produced by the imagination.
So what is the big deal about vision? Some people have it, and some people dont have it.
The big deal about vision is this. It takes vision to get from where you are now to where you want to go. It takes vision to see what seems impossible become possible.
I want to pose the question to those of you who are here today?
On a personal scale:
If the Lord tarries, what do you want your life to be like five years from now?
If the Lord tarries, what do you want your life to be like ten years from now?
On a larger scale:
If the Lord tarries where do you want to see your church five years from now?
If the Lord tarries where do you want to see your church ten years from now?
What are you living for?
You must understand that vision is the whole essence of your living. The reason you are sent into the world by God is for you to fulfill a vision. If you can see it, you can have it.
Vision is a discovery of Gods plan as it relates to your life.
Vision is also foresight with insight
Vision also means beginning a thing with the end in mind
No man ever saw glory without first seeing the vision someone once said Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can also achieve.
