In Heaven, it's still happening and performed by ministering angels, that the LORD is smelling the sweet incense combined with our prayers, everytime we pray to GOD, we pleased Him and it's like GOD is smelling perfume.

Gold represents divinity or deity in the Old Testament, so people are worshipping the gold instead of the Giver of it: GOD, but in this case, gold "only" represents deity of GOD, not GOD Himself, nor it's intended for someone to worship gold. That's why when they're performing worship in the Tabernacle, all they do are divine efforts not human efforts which pleased GOD for a while until the New Covenant arised.

See what people think of gold during those days, for them it's an object of worship, but to us, we worship GOD, not the things that represents GOD.

2:20 In that day men shall cast away to the moles and to the bats their idols of silver and their idols of gold, which they made for themselves to worship,

46:6 They lavish gold out of the cup or bag, weigh out silver on the scales, and hire a goldsmith, and he fashions it into a god; [then] they fall down, yes, they worship it!

Revelation 9:20 (Amplified Bible)

9:20 And the rest of humanity who were not killed by these plagues even then did not repent of [the worship of] the works of their [own] hands, so as to cease paying homage to the demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor move.

1. golden jar with the manna - represents GOD's provision but we rebel often times at His Providence.

2. Aaron's rod that sprouted - represents GOD's authority as delegated to His people, but we also rebel against it.

5:4 Besides, one does not appropriate for himself the honor [of being high priest], but he is called by God and receives it of Him, just as Aaron did.

GOD gives the honor of being called by Him and people despise and rebel against this calling. Of course, if you have been called, then you have GOD's authority.

3. Two stone tablets bearing the Ten Commandments - represents GOD'S laws, rules and regulations but we also rebel against it.

So the ark of the Covenant needed not to be opened because it all represents man's rebellion against GOD in three ways: (1) we rebel against GOD's Providence, (2) we rebel against GOD'S authority, and (3) we rebel against GOD's laws.

25:21 You shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony [the Ten Commandments] that I will give you.

Praise the LORD because His Mercies is above His judgements on us.
