VI. TITLE:
The Holy Place - The First Part Of The Tent
VII. EXPLICATION:
A. Date of writing: Before AD. 70
B. Style of writing: Best Greek style
C. Authorship: Not specific, but generally attributed to Apostle Paul. Can be also ascribed to Barnabas, Luke, Apollos
D. Audience: Hebrew Christians
E. Theme: Christ is superior to the prophets; Christ is superior to angels—J. Vernon McGee's Thru The Bible
F. Purpose: The chief doctrinal purpose of the writer was to show the transcendent glory of the Christian dispensation, as compared with that of the Old Testament.—Thompson Chain - Bible Book Outlines
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. A Tabernacle was set up
"For a tabernacle (tent) was erected,"
Exodus 40:18-20 (Amplified Bible)
40:18 Moses set up the tabernacle, laid its sockets, set up its boards, put in its bars, and erected its pillars.
40:19 [Moses] spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent over it, as the Lord had commanded him.
40:20 He took the Testimony [the Ten Commandments] and put it into the ark, and set the poles [in the rings] on the ark, and put the mercy seat on top of the ark.
Exodus 39:32-34 (Amplified Bible)
39:32 Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting was finished; according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so the Israelites had done.
39:33 And they brought the tabernacle to Moses: the tent and all its furnishings, its clasps, its [frame] boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets or bases;
39:34 And the covering of rams’ skins made red, and the covering of dolphin or porpoise skins, and the veil of the screen;
Tabernacle is "skēnē" in Greek word, meaning tent, cloth, or habitation, used in the Old covenant for worship, it's just a tent with animal skin covering.
Hebrews 9:11 (Amplified Bible)
9:11 But [that appointed time came] when Christ (the Messiah) appeared as a High Priest of the better things that have come and are to come. [Then] through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with [human] hands, that is, not a part of this material creation,
B. The Holy Place, the first room contains the lampstand, table, and the consecrated bread
"in the outer division or compartment of which were the lampstand and the table with [its loaves of] the showbread set forth. [This portion] is called the Holy Place"
The Holy Place has 3 things on it:
1. The Lampstand - it allows us to remember that we are the church and whenever we gather in JESUS' Name, JESUS is in our midst.
JESUS is in the midst of the candlestick for He is the light of this world.
Revelation 1:12-13 (Amplified Bible)
1:12 Then I turned to see [whose was] the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands,
1:13 And in the midst of the lampstands [One] like a Son of Man, clothed with a robe which reached to His feet and with a girdle of gold about His breast.
In the New Covenant, churches are referred to as the candlestick and JESUS is in our midst.
Matthew 5:14-16 (Amplified Bible)
5:14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
5:15 Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.
5:16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.
Matthew 18:19 (Amplified Bible)
18:19 Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven.
2. Table of shewbread - it allows us to remember JESUS offered both His body and His precious blood for our salvation, healing, justification and redemption from the powers of sin, death, devil, law, world, sicknesses and diseases.
The "table" in the New Testament is used as a stool, to eat meal, and to count money. But in the Old Testament especially the Table of shewbread is used for one purpose to eat a meal. Here is where the LORD eats the meal with us, and considered as the Holy Communion in the New Covenant. It is supposed to be pure Divine method of worshipping the LORD.
Leviticus 24:6 (Amplified Bible)
24:6 And you shall set them in two rows, six in a row, upon the table of pure gold before the Lord.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (Amplified Bible)
11:23 For I received from the Lord Himself that which I passed on to you [it was given to me personally], that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was treacherously delivered up and while His betrayal was in progress took bread,
11:24 And when He had given thanks, He broke [it] and said, Take, eat. This is My body, which is broken for you. Do this to call Me [affectionately] to remembrance.
11:25 Similarly when supper was ended, He took the cup also, saying, This cup is the new covenant [ratified and established] in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink [it], to call Me [affectionately] to remembrance.
11:26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are representing and signifying and proclaiming the fact of the Lord’s death until He comes [again].
Matthew 26:26-28 (Amplified Bible)
26:26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, praising God, gave thanks and asked Him to bless it to their use, and when He had broken it, He gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body.
26:27 And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you;
26:28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which [ratifies the agreement and] is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Mark 14:22-25 (Amplified Bible)
14:22 And while they were eating, He took a loaf [of bread], praised God and gave thanks and asked Him to bless it to their use. [Then] He broke [it] and gave to them and said, Take. Eat. This is My body.
14:23 He also took a cup [of the juice of grapes], and when He had given thanks, He gave [it] to them, and they all drank of it.
14:24 And He said to them, This is My blood [which ratifies] the new covenant, [the blood] which is being poured out for (on account of) many.
14:25 Solemnly and surely I tell you, I shall not again drink of the fruit of the vine till that day when I drink it of a new and a higher quality in God’s kingdom.
It also reminds us that we are waiting for the marriage of the Lamb where we will have meal feast in the rapture.
Luke 22:16-20 (Amplified Bible)
22:16 For I say to you, I shall eat it no more until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
22:17 And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He said, Take this and divide and distribute it among yourselves;
22:18 For I say to you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine at all until the kingdom of God comes.
22:19 Then He took a loaf [of bread], and when He had given thanks, He broke [it] and gave it to them saying, This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.
22:20 And in like manner, He took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament or covenant [ratified] in My blood, which is shed (poured out) for you.
Luke 22:30 (Amplified Bible)
22:30 That you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Remember, in our meal with JESUS, in the marriage supper of the Lamb, our reception time with the LORD, the LORD JESUS Himself will serve us in the meal table.
Luke 12:37 (Amplified Bible)
12:37 Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are those servants whom the master finds awake and alert and watching when he comes. Truly I say to you, he will gird himself and have them recline at table and will come and serve them!
3. consecrated bread - it allows us to remember that JESUS is our Meal.
John 6:50-58 (Amplified Bible)
6:50 [But] this is the Bread that comes down from heaven, so that [any]one may eat of it and never die.
6:51 I [Myself] am this Living Bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever; and also the Bread that I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh (body).
6:52 Then the Jews angrily contended with one another, saying, How is He able to give us His flesh to eat?
6:53 And Jesus said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, you cannot have any life in you unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood [unless you appropriate His life and the saving merit of His blood].
6:54 He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has (possesses now) eternal life, and I will raise him up [from the dead] on the last day.
6:55 For My flesh is true and genuine food, and My blood is true and genuine drink.
6:56 He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood dwells continually in Me, and I [in like manner dwell continually] in him.
6:57 Just as the living Father sent Me and I live by (through, because of) the Father, even so whoever continues to feed on Me [whoever takes Me for his food and is nourished by Me] shall [in his turn] live through and because of Me.
6:58 This is the Bread that came down from heaven. It is not like the manna which our forefathers ate, and yet died; he who takes this Bread for his food shall live forever.
We eat JESUS in our private worship/life and in our public worship/life. We consume, and devour JESUS. It is food that satisfies.
Psalms 23:1-2 (Amplified Bible)
23:1 A Psalm of David. THE LORD is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.
23:2 He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.
IX. CONCLUSION:
Thank You very much LORD JESUS, You are the Light of this world and whenever we gather around You are in our midst, You are our Passover meal, and You are our daily food that we devour, consumed and we are fully satisfied in consuming Your Presence.
