Listen to the Women !!!

1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to

( or FAITHFUL to ) your own husbands;

Notes on 1 Peter 3:1

The word “subjection does not translate “under the authority of” here, it translates “faithful”.

Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife,

even as Christ is the head of the church:

Notes on Eph. 5:23

“head” translates “responsible for” or “provider”.

Not as in a chain of command. Its a " Marriage " not Military !!!

1 Corinthians 11:2-4 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the “ordinances”,

as I delivered them to you. 3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

4 Every man praying or prophesying,

having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

Also the word “head” here has several meanings that need to be taken in context as the sentence progresses.

Example, “The man with the hat on his “head” is the “head” of the garden committee. He is at the “head of the road holding a “head” of lettuce.

So from these verses you may think that since the "husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church," that man is the spiritual head of the household. This is a role I think has been perverted. What happens when the man

is a new believer and his wife is a long-time Christian?

What about when a woman is a pastor called by God?

Being the spiritual head of the household doesn’t mean

being able to recite certain scripture to get your way.

Being the spiritual leader means keeping the well-being of your family, both spiritual and otherwise in prayer. Being the spiritual head of the household means loving your family as Jesus loved the church. It means sacrifice, being a servant, listening with your heart, being patient, loving unconditionally, forgiveness, teaching your family about God, and talking to God about our family; keeping them in prayer always. Then you are the Spiritual head !!!!!

Joel 2:28-29 And it shall come to pass afterward,

that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids

in those days will I pour out my spirit.

Acts 2:16-18 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days,

saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:

and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Matthew 28:1 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the sepulchre. 5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus,

which was crucified. 6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead;

Luke 1:13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed,

because thou believest not my words,

which shall be fulfilled in their season.

Luke 1:57 Elisabeth brought forth a son. 59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. 60 And his mother answered and said, Not so;

but he shall be called John. 61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

62 And they made signs to his father, what he would have him called. 63 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.

64 And his mouth was opened immediately,

and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.

Genesis 16:1 Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. 2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

5 And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee:

I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.( May the LORD decide who is right ) 6 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee.

John 4:17 Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. 28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way to the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things: is not this the Christ?

2 Timothy 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice;

John 2:1-5 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

Romans 16:1-2 I commend unto you Phebe our sister,

which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:

That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you:

for she hath been a succourer, "someone who saves or shepherd" of many, and of myself also. Paul’s Pastor.

Romans 16:3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers (or equals) in Christ Jesus: Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks,

but also all the churches of the Gentiles.

Romans 16:6 Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us.

1 Corinthians 1:10-13 Now I beseech you, brethren,

by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you;

but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

Acts 16:13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city

by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple,

of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. (Another Church Plant)

Romans 16:7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me. (Junia, an Apostle)

Listen to the Women !!!

For centuries men have misused and misinterpreted the Bible to keep women silent. But the message of Scripture is clear: God has called His daughters to prophesy.

It's a lie to say that women are not equipped to assume leadership roles in the church. Cultural as well as religious mind-sets have helped spread this lie, but in spite of arguments to the contrary, it is not supported by Scripture.

Some preachers jumped on the anti-woman bandwagon and launched an effort to "re-masculinize" the church out of fear that women would somehow come to dominate it.

For the most part, those who fight the idea of women's ordination today are still using the same arguments and misinterpreted Bible passages. Old lies don't die easily.

Did Jesus Believe Women Could Lead?

Jesus affirmed the equality of women in the midst of a culture that denied them basic human rights. He called them to be His disciples during a time when religious leaders taught that it was disgraceful, even to teach a woman.

In Luke 8 the women who followed Jesus were a vital part of His ministry: "The twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities--Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him".

These women were not just stragglers, they were Jesus' disciples and we have every reason to believe that He commissioned them to minister in His name.

When Jesus sent the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts,

many of these same women were in the upper room

and received empowerment on the day of Pentecost.

Power to do what? Preach the Good News of the Gospel…

If Christ commissioned only men to the ministry of the gospel, why did He give power to both men and women?

What about Mary ? If a woman was good enough to carry Jesus in her womb, then why would she not be good enough to carry Him in her MOUTH !!!

The Bible Empowers Women. The Bible is full of women who were placed in authority by God.

Miriam. There is no question that Moses' sister was considered a leader in ancient Israel. “Micah 6:4”

She represented the authority of God to the people in the same way Moses did. She spoke for God. That's why she is described in Exodus 15:20 as a prophetess.

Deborah. Among the judges of Israel, Deborah was the only Prophet other than Samuel. “Judges 4:4” Her attentiveness to God's purpose and strategy resulted in a military victory for Israel that secured peace for 40 years (Judg. 5:31).

Deborah functioned as a civil ruler and was so respected for her anointing and spiritual insights that Barak, Israel's military commander, refused to go into battle without her.

Deborah, is called "'a mother in Israel'" (Judg. 5:7).

Huldah. After 50 years of paganism and spiritual adultery in Israel, King Josiah took the throne and found the Book of the Law, which had been hidden in the temple. When it was read, he repented and turned to the Lord, then sent his high priest to find a faithful follower of God who could speak for Him. Who did he turn to, Huldah, a prophetess.

Esther proves that God uses women in strategic positions of influence to further His purposes. He singled out this young Jewish woman and placed her as an intercessor and deliverer, just like Moses, and her prayers and obedience literally saved her people from total destruction.

Phoebe. Paul commended Phoebe to the church at Rome and asked them to "receive her in the Lord" (Rom. 16:1-2).

Paul refers to her as his " succourer”, meaning “someone who saves, or a shepherd. Paul's commending Phoebe to the Roman church was his way of giving her apostolic authority, and he obviously expected the Christians to follow her.

Jewish history records that she was Paul’s Pastor.

Priscilla, along with her husband, Aquila, (a husband and wife team like Lyril and me), was a woman Pastor who influenced the apostolic ministry of Apollos (Acts 18:24-26). They were also Apostles, since Paul refers to them in Romans 16:3 as "fellow workers in Christ Jesus." We are told that they had a church "in their house".

Philip's daughters. Acts 21:9 says that Philip the evangelist had four daughters who were prophetesses. Women who were respected for their spiritual insights and giftedness.

Lois and Eunice. Paul commends these two women, Timothy's mother and grandmother, for shaping his ministry through their instruction and example.

By the way, where were Daddy and Grandpa?

Who Says Women Can't Lead?

Joel predicted that the Holy Spirit would be poured out on the church and our sons and daughters [would] prophesy'"

Now, all believers, regardless of gender have full access to the Spirit of God. If preaching was limited to men only, Joel would not have mentioned daughters in his prediction.

He would have said, "In the last days, I will pour out My Spirit, and your sons will prophesy while your daughters serve quietly in the background and pray for the men."

The Bible says that women will preach and lead and be on the front lines of ministry. Like Deborah, they will take the church into enemy’s camp and watch the Lord give them victory. Like Esther, they will not keep silent. Like Phoebe,

they will labor as apostles to establish churches.

Why do men pride themselves on strict adherence to a literal translation of the Bible, and then twist it? We will answer to God for limiting His work by restricting the flow of His Spirit through women who have been called.

We need to understand that the Bible does not call women to be silent. In the book of Proverbs, godly wisdom is portrayed as a fearless woman who stands in the middle of the city and "cries out" (Prov. 8:3). She declares: "'To you, O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men'". She preaches with authority, to men. She is evangelizing men in the central square of a major city. Yet how many leaders of major denominations in the United States would tell this woman preacher to sit down and shut up?

It is tragic that great women preachers have to defend their anointing. When are we going to stop quenching the Holy Spirit by denying our sisters their right to prophesy?

To keep them silent is to tune out the voice of the Spirit.

To reject their leadership is to reject the Lord.

Shouldn't Women Keep Silent? Then get them out of the Sunday School, off the Missionary Field, off the Piano and out of the Choir. These women were uneducated as children.

But didn't the apostle Paul say in 1 Timothy 2:12 that women aren't allowed to teach or to have authority over men? Paul said for women to "be in silence". But wait, in other epistles he endorses women praying and prophesying.

So obviously his restriction on women in 1 Timothy 2:12 does not apply to all women in all situations. He was dealing with a serious heresy problem in the church at Ephesus. Some female teachers were spreading error. They were saying that women were superior to men and that Eve was created before Adam. Paul commanded Timothy not to let these women spread their false doctrine. Yet we know that he was more than willing to let trained, Bible-believing women teach--since he commends Phoebe, Junia and Priscilla. We will not allow women or men to teach error !!

1 Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

The word usurp means to demand, as in a dictatorship. Neither women nor men should act as a dictator.

Who Says Women Can’t Pastor?

You might ask, Can you show me one place in the New Testament where a woman ever functioned as a pastor?

And I say, can you show me one place where a man ever functioned as a pastor! The word Pastor is only used once in the whole Bible, Ephesians 4:11. READ YOUE BIBLE !!

Men, how many times should we have listened to our wives, mothers or other women of wisdom? Get real, haven’t you ever learned anything from a woman? I know of many times where I should have listened. I should have listened to my Mother and Sister when they told me (begged me), NOT to go into R&R and we can’t forget when Lyril told me Not to go on stage at TBN or backstage with Jesse Duplantis or when she told me Not to get in a pin with giant alligators.

I believe that I have given enough scripture to prove that there are Women Pastors in the NT as well as Women Prophets, Evangelists, Apostles and Teachers.

Phoebe, a Woman Pastor … Paul’s Pastor

Priscilla, A Woman Pastor/Teacher

Junia, A Woman Apostle/Teacher

The Woman at the Well, A Woman Evangelist/Apostle

Jo-Ann, Renee, Gay, and all the rest, Women Preachers

Lyril Poovey,, Woman Pastor, Evangelist, Teacher, Prophet

So, who says women can’t preach or be a Pastor?

Not Jesus! Not Paul! Not me, and not the New Testament!
