TOPIC: LEADERSHIP DEDICATION
TEXT: Exodus 18:13 – 27
13 The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. 14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, "What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?"
15 Moses answered him, "Because the people come to me to seek God's will. 16 Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God's decrees and laws."
17 Moses' father-in-law replied, "What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to him. 20 Teach them the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform. 21 But select capable men from all the people--men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain--and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. 23 If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied."
Introduction:
Today is the day of dedicating our set of officers this year 2014. Before we dedicate our leaders, let me share the word of God today to inspire our leaders and congregation why we are doing this special service of dedication.
In leadership we are making events in our life that leads us to success. Today’s dedication, I would like to raise this Question “Why We Need Good Leadership? Or why you need to get involve in our Church Leadership. We are going to answer this question with the following points:
I. PEOPLE NEEDS TO BE MET – vs. 15 -16
A. People seek Gods will. Jeremiah 50:6 "My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray and caused them to roam on the mountains. They wandered over mountain and hill and forgot their own resting place.
B. They have dispute, needs counselor. No leaders.
C. People need leaders to explain the decrees and laws of God.
D. People need physical and spiritual healing.
CHALLENGE: Who are going to stand at the gap to meet the needs of this people? The works are too heavy for Moses to be done. The ministry is too heavy for the pastor alone to be done, it needs help of leaders.
II. PEOPLE NEEDS TO BE ORGANIZE – vs. 21a
It is too difficult and too heavy for Moses to do the work unless He organizes people to do the other work.
A. Organize comes from the word “Organizing” which means arranging and relating work so that it can be performed most effectively by people.
B. Moses selects capable men and organizes them for leadership.
C. Here are the Capable Men: Men who fear God, trustworthy men, men who hate dishonest gain.
CHALLENGE: We can lighter the load of leaders if we involved ourselves in leadership. Example here is Aaron an Ur.
Exodus 17:10-11 – v.10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.
III. PEOPLE NEEDS TO ORGANIZE & DELEGATES. V. 21b
Here is the advice of Jethro, the Father-in-laws of Moses – “Delegation” or “Delegating” which means entrusting responsibility and authority to others and creating accountability for results.
A. Moses appoints them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
B. Leaders serve as judges for the people at all times, every difficult case brought to Moses; and the simple cases will handle and decide by themselves.
CHALLENGE: To finish the task effectively in the ministry, we need to do task entrusted to us as leaders. Once the task delegated to you, please do it for the glory of God.
IV. PEOPLE NEEDS WILL BE SATISFIED
If there’s good leadership and cooperation or unity, the following will be the results.
A. People needs will be met.
B. People will be satisfied and will not go astray.
C. The load of the leaders will be lighter.
D. Everybody will enjoy in the ministry.
CONCLUSION:
We hope that this message will reminds us leaders, we are called by God to serve to His people. Joshua 24:15 – “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
