VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. CHRIST might deliver and completely set free us from death
"And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death"
Death means:
1. the death of the body
2. metaphorically, the loss of that life which alone is worthy of the name
3. the miserable state of the wicked dead in hell
4. in the widest sense, death comprising all the miseries arising from sin, as well physical death as the loss of a life consecrated to God and blessed in him on earth, to be followed by wretchedness in hell
CHRIST delivered and set us free from all what death means to us and the unbelievers. That's why CHRIST warned the people during His time not to fear those who can only kill the body, but GOD who can kill the body and soul in hell.
Matthew 10:28 (Amplified Bible)
10:28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be afraid of Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell (Gehenna).
Psalms 56:13 (The Message)
56:13 You pulled me from the brink of death, my feet from the cliff-edge of doom. Now I stroll at leisure with God in the sunlit fields of life.
Luke 1:74-75 (Amplified Bible)
1:74 To grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our foes, might serve Him fearlessly
1:75 In holiness (divine consecration) and righteousness [in accordance with the everlasting principles of right] within His presence all the days of our lives.
What do we do then if we're delivered from death? In holiness and righteousness serve GOD fearlessly.
B. CHRIST delivered us from bondage of fear of death
"were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives"
A genuine believer who knows the WORD does not fear death itself, for those who fear are slaves.
Romans 8:15 (Amplified Bible)
8:15 For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!
Romans 8:21 (Amplified Bible)
8:21 That nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption [and gain an entrance] into the glorious freedom of God’s children.
2 Timothy 1:7 (Amplified Bible)
1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.
IX. CONCLUSION:
Believe even if it costs your life.
Revelation 2:10 (The Message)
2:10 "Fear nothing in the things you're about to suffer—but stay on guard! Fear nothing! The Devil is about to throw you in jail for a time of testing—ten days. It won't last forever. "Don't quit, even if it costs you your life. Stay there believing. I have a Life-Crown sized and ready for you.
