The need of a Miracle
Facing the impossible
John 6 5-14
The need of a Miracle
Miracles are no less needed today than when Jesus walked the earth. Every where He went he performed miracles.
Thus people followed him because he healed many of the diseased.
Why don’t we see them today. Would more follow him if they seen the miraculous. Perhaps our faith is weak.
I want to use this story to strengthen your faith!
5 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?"
6 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.
7 Philip answered Him, "Two hundred denarii’s worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little."
8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,
9 "There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?"
10 Then Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.
12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost."
13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.
14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, "This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.
Jesus saw the crowd- knew their need?
Where can we buy bread. How can we meet their need? Not enough money!
We need to believe especially in the times we are living that God has more than enough. And he will multiply what you have to make it sufficient for the need.
One little boy had some fish and some bread.
Notice:
Took what he had.
Set down - as to hear what he had to say. Hear what the word says. Gives instruction to listen and obey.
Blessing was greater than the need!
Realized- if we preach or live by the word:
We must expect the results it gives by faith.
1 Cor 9.27
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Last few months I have faced impossible situations in my life. I struggled with faith and doubt. With options to have faith or not have faith.
Listen my friends- You must seek faith in the midst of your impossibility.
Different needs for each of us.
A debt of $4000 may seem impossible for one with only a a couple of dollars dollar. But its nothing for one with $100,000
Like a man standing in front of a water falls and asking for a drank of water.
Does this make since?
They had to confess they didn’t have enough and what they had he said to give so you will know you don’t have anything. Some of you might I have more than enough?
True but only through God.
Lessons here are two fold
1.Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
2. Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Are you in need of miracle? Plant some seed (different message)
1. Need of a miracle
Confess a need for a miracle- we might be standing in front of an impossibility today.
In our story: at least 5000 men and who knows women and children.
Those people who had followed and saw miracles of healing.
Your need or miracle is real to you.
Your circumstances cry out for help but does your faith answer back and does to it continue at the same time.
2. How shall we receive a miracle we need?
Jesus ask how shall we buy enough bread to feed all these?
Phillip says only 200 pennyworth it is not enough to feed all these.
A miracle is when you what you have is not enough.
Doctors says
Bank for closures
Lost of job
Government shut down
Sometimes you have to give out of your need.
Would you share your fishes and bread?
Lad said yes!
3. Preparing for service
Tell them to set down!
Christ now takes command of the situation and has every one set down. The Lord gave thanks!
Note the prayer of thanksgiving occurs before the miracle.
Also note Phillips faith was little.
Formula if you will:
Pray for the need
Given of goods
Give thanks for the supply
Now we wait for the miracle, Jesus gave to the disciples and the disciples gave to them that set down waiting to receive their portion.
Sit down - is to relax in your spirit- be at peace for your miracle is coming.
4. Results what was their portion
Hear it is; Eph 3:20
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
More than enough: They gathered fragments that remain that nothing be lost.
Mark said they did eat and where filled and where able to fill 12 more baskets.
Is any thing to hard for God? Jeremiah 32/17 says nothing is to hard for God
Mark 9/23 says if thou believe all things are possible
Luke 18/27 the things are impossible with men are possible with God
Luke 1/37 For God nothing shall be impossible
If you are facing impossible situations - are there questions?
1. Does the lord love me any less because he has allowed me to go through thru this?
Romans 8/35
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
2. Do I believe who Jesus is and what he claims he can do?
Romans 4:21
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
He gets all things in order without panic.
He sets them down in ranks of 100 and 50’s
Preparing them to receive what he has promised.
3. Am I remaining faithful despite my present circumstances?
Fish and bread is not enough- nor the love of the world.
We must remain faithful as over the few things and he will make us ruler over many things.
4. Do I have a spiritual perspective of what is happening?
Do I see more than the issue of affliction?
What can I learn from this experience?
2 Cor 4:17-18
17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
5. Am I praying fervently and asking for wisdom?
James 1.5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Phil 4.6-7
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Lastly
6. How thankful am I for what I have?
Facing the impossible is possible with God.
Your miracle is on the way?
