Many of the people
Study of Mark 11

B. Date written: 58 B.C.

D. To whom written: Roman or Gentile Christians

G. Key verse: Mark 10:45
Mark 10:45 (Amplified Bible)
10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to have service rendered to Him, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for (instead of) many.
VIII. MAIN BODY:
Mass homage happened while JESUS is on the road riding a young colt.
But unlike any earthly king, JESUS came in by humility. Kings will usually use a donkey, mule or a horse but not a young colt. JESUS is no earthly king but both Heavenly and earthly king and even under-the-earth king. (Philippians 2:10-11)
2 Samuel 16:2 (Amplified Bible)
16:2 The king said to Ziba, What do you mean by these? Ziba said, The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on, the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine is for those to drink who become faint in the wilderness.
2 Samuel 18:9 (Amplified Bible)
18:9 Then Absalom [unavoidably] met the servants of David. Absalom rode on a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and Absalom’s head caught fast [in a fork] of the oak; and the mule under him ran away, leaving him hanging between the heavens and the earth.
1 Kings 1:33 (Amplified Bible)
1:33 The king told them, Take the servants of your lord and cause Solomon my son to ride on my own mule and bring him down to Gihon [in the Kidron Valley].
Philippians 2:10-11 (Amplified Bible)
2:10 That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
2:11 And every tongue [frankly and openly] confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
A. They spread their garments on the road
"And many [of the people] spread their garments on the road,"
Leviticus 23:40 (Amplified Bible)
23:40 And on the first day you shall take the fruit of pleasing trees [and make booths of them], branches of palm trees, and boughs of thick (leafy) trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.
Spreading of garments represents royal homage to a physical king.
2 Kings 9:13 (Amplified Bible)
9:13 Then they hastily took every man his garment and put it [for a cushion] under Jehu on the top of the [outside] stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king!
B. They scattered leafy branches
"and others [scattered a layer of] leafy branches which they had cut from the fields"
Carrying of branches were also part of the worship at the feast.
Psalms 118:27 (Amplified Bible)
118:27 The Lord is God, Who has shown and given us light [He has illuminated us with grace, freedom, and joy]. Decorate the festival with leafy boughs and bind the sacrifices to be offered with thick cords [all over the priest’s court, right up] to the horns of the altar.
So the people really did acknowledge JESUS as King, but do they really know He's going straight to the Temple?
IX. CONCLUSION:
In CHRIST's Second Coming, the KING of kings and LORD of lords will settle international disputes very different from His First Coming.
Isaiah 2:4 (Amplified Bible)
2:4 And He shall judge between the nations and shall decide [disputes] for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Micah 4:1-3 (Amplified Bible)
4:1 BUT IN the latter days it shall come to pass that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains; and it shall be exalted above the hills, and peoples shall flow to it.
4:2 And many nations shall come and say, Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that He may teach us His ways, and we may walk in His paths. For the law shall go forth out of Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4:3 And He shall judge between many peoples and shall decide for strong nations afar off, and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
