Colossians 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.
The passage of scripture we study is a Biblical focus on God’s word in the sense of guardianship. Habakkuk 2:1 I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he[a] will answer my complaint. Jeremiah 17:9 “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
Beware means to watch out because it could hit you. Therefore, to spoil, cheat, defraud, cause you to stray is an attack of the enemy. However, because it is common practice in the world, we as believers must make a choice to be deceived or continue to believe. Do not allow people to carry you or away from God’s Word through vain or beautiful philosophy or flattery.
God’s Word must secure our hearts to which we know who we are in Christ. Therefore, we don’t need to look to the world or to this Babylonian system for encouragement. The world is set up for divorce; however, it is different when we had a society based on morals and beliefs that were strictly Biblical. Now the philosophies of man have scattered flocks to which even churches are merely philosophical institutions and not Biblical in all aspects of the Word of Faith which we preach.
The number one reason for marital divorce is because two people have once believed but now fail to believe due to lies and deception of the devil. This is how people in the world deceived each other and we must divorce from the world’s philosophy and cleave to God’s philosophy. God’s philosophy is that you put His word 1st above all things, people, or places.
It will always get better when you do it God’s way. When God’s word is unhindered in your life, then you can walk in freedom from sin, false teachings and philosophies that evoke emotion. Communication with God and the people He has placed in your life are key to the power of The Word over the power of the world.
I’ve always been taught never take the word of a preacher, if that preacher can’t show it to you in the Word. The Bible says that the “Never” means not once should you take someone’s word of instruction, inspiration, and encouragement especially on the fly or when you’re out and about living daily life if they can’t show you in the Word of God where it says it. The Word will always minister itself. The Spirit speaketh expressly and will minister unto you through wisdom (Word in action) and revelation (Illumination of the word through a renewed mind).
When people lack wisdom and revelation, they have no other choice but to follow after vain philosophies that men make-up; however, it takes a real man to be her/ her God man or woman and know the scripture to encourage, inspire, and move themselves to Faith action.
The power is in the Word and not in another man’s words. Show me in the scripture and I’ll believe it. Show me not in the scripture and I don’t have to receive it… even if it is good word if it is not thee Word I have no obligation to receive anything outside of God’s word directly-especially if it has to do with the life those who are in familial or mutual relationships with us.
All in all, God’s Word must be final in our lives. We must allow the Holy Spirit to lead and Guide us and not man. Now, practically this doesn’t mean that we can do our jobs or listen to our bosses, the bible says to submit to our Masters and follow the ordinances, but in daily discussions with those we come in contact with and have nothing to do with business, we must safe guards hearts lest we be deceived. It is usually during our pastime that we are deceived and around those who would gossip or trite implant a counterfeit word that is really contrary to God’s intentional Word for us. Beware lest you be spoiled with man’s philosophy which sounds good and can even be based on the word but really has its root in selfishness, greed, and fleshly desire.
