VIII. MAIN BODY:

Definition of:

Pure -

Greek word: "katharos" meaning clean, unpolluted, clear and unmixed.

Latin word: "purus" which means the following:

1. Separate from all heterogeneous or extraneous matter; clear; free from mixture; as pure water; pure clay; pure sand; pure air; pure silver of gold. Pure wine is very scare

2. Free from moral defilement; without spot; not sullied or tarnished; incorrupt; undebased by moral turpitude; holy.

3. Genuine; real; true; incorrupt; unadulterated; as pure religion. James 1.

4. Unmixed; separate from any other subject or from every thing foreign; as pure mathematics.

5. Free from guilt; guiltless; innocent.

No hand of strife is pure, but that which wins.

6. Not vitiated with improper or corrupt words or phrases; as a pure style of discourse or composition.

7. Disinterested; as pure benevolence.

A. To the Pure - all things are pure

"To the pure [in heart and conscience] all things are pure,"

Psalms 24:3-4 (Amplified Bible)

Who shall go up into the mountain of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His Holy Place?

He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted himself up to falsehood or to what is false, nor sworn deceitfully.

Matthew 5:8 (Amplified Bible)

Blessed (happy, enviably fortunate, and spiritually prosperous—possessing the happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His grace, regardless of their outward conditions) are the pure in heart, for they shall see God!

1 Peter 1:22 (Amplified Bible)

Since by your obedience to the Truth through the [Holy ] Spirit you have purified your hearts for the sincere affection of the brethren, [see that you] love one another fervently from a pure heart.

The pure are blessed by GOD, obedient to the Truth thru HOLY SPIRIT with purified hearts and sincere affection to the brethren.

B. Pure differs from corrupted and do not believe

"but to the defiled and corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure;"

1. Sinful mind - corrupted

Romans 1:28 (Amplified Bible)

And so, since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or approve of Him or consider Him worth the knowing, God gave them over to a base and condemned mind to do things not proper or decent but loathsome,

Romans 8:7 (Amplified Bible)

[That is] because the mind of the flesh [with its carnal thoughts and purposes] is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God’s Law; indeed it cannot.

Ephesians 4:17 (Amplified Bible)

So this I say and solemnly testify in [the name of] the Lord [as in His presence], that you must no longer live as the heathen (the Gentiles) do in their perverseness [in the folly, vanity, and emptiness of their souls and the futility] of their minds.

2. Unbelief - those who don't believe

They needed to see signs to believe. For them, it's see to believe. Wicked and evil men don't have faith.

John 4:48 (Amplified Bible)

Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see signs and miracles happen, you [people] never will believe (trust, have faith) at all.

1 Corinthians 14:22 (Amplified Bible)

Thus [unknown] tongues are meant for a [supernatural] sign, not for believers but for unbelievers [on the point of believing], while prophecy (inspired preaching and teaching, interpreting the divine will and purpose) is not for unbelievers [on the point of believing] but for believers.

3. Blinded minds

2 Corinthians 4:4 (Amplified Bible)

For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.

C. Corrupted and do not believe - their minds and consciences are corrupted

"their very minds and consciences are defiled and polluted"

D. For us Pure - Our minds should be:

1. Set my mind on things above

Colossians 3:2 (Amplified Bible)

And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.

2. Renew my mind

Romans 12:2 (Amplified Bible)

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

3. Make up my mind - not to pass judgment

Romans 14:13 (Amplified Bible)

Then let us no more criticize and blame and pass judgment on one another, but rather decide and endeavor never to put a stumbling block or an obstacle or a hindrance in the way of a brother.

4. Be of one mind

2 Corinthians 13:11 (Amplified Bible)

Finally, brethren, farewell (rejoice)! Be strengthened (perfected, completed, made what you ought to be); be encouraged and consoled and comforted; be of the same [agreeable] mind one with another; live in peace, and [then] the God of love [Who is the Source of affection, goodwill, love, and benevolence toward men] and the Author and Promoter of peace will be with you.

5. Be clear-minded and self-controlled

1 Peter 4:7 (Amplified Bible)

But the end and culmination of all things has now come near; keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for [the practice of] prayer.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Object, purpose and charge is love - coming from a pure heart, good conscience and sincere faith.

1 Timothy 1:5 (Amplified Bible)

Whereas the object and purpose of our instruction and charge is love, which springs from a pure heart and a good (clear) conscience and sincere (unfeigned) faith.
