VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Dress modestly

"Also [I desire] that women should adorn themselves modestly"

No ostentation. Ostentation means "outward show or appearance", "fond of show", "vain display".

Isaiah 39:2 (Amplified Bible)

And Hezekiah was glad and welcomed them and showed them the house of his spices and precious things—the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious ointment, all the house of his armor and his jewels, and all that was found in his treasuries. There was nothing in his house nor in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.

Hezekiah in his happiness can't help being ostentatious that's why the consequence is the King of Babylon after Hezekiah's rule, burned Jerusalem to the ground.

Luke 20:46 (Amplified Bible)

Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes and love to be saluted [with honor] in places where people congregate and love the front and best seats in the synagogues and places of distinction at feasts,

Scribes with their ostentatious attitude missed eternal life and instead loves to show off what they have based all in external motivation rather than what they have or have not in their insides (hearts).

Acts 25:23 (Amplified Bible)

So the next day Agrippa and Bernice approached with great display, and they went into the audience hall accompanied by the military commandants and the prominent citizens of the city. At the order of Festus Paul was brought in.

King Agrippa and Queen Bernice showed off their kingship/queenly apparel but missed eternal life from the preaching of Paul as a consequence.

B. With decency and propriety

"and appropriately and sensibly in seemly apparel,"

Decent - respectable.

Propriety - conformity to established custom.

Romans 13:13 (Amplified Bible)

Let us live and conduct ourselves honorably and becomingly as in the [open light of] day, not in reveling (carousing) and drunkenness, not in immorality and debauchery (sensuality and licentiousness), not in quarreling and jealousy.

1 Timothy 2:15 (Amplified Bible)

Nevertheless [the sentence put upon women of pain in motherhood does not hinder their souls’ salvation, and] they will be saved [eternally] if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control, [saved indeed] through the Childbearing or by the birth of the divine Child.

C. Not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes

"not with [elaborate] hair arrangement or gold or pearls or expensive clothing,"

Luke 16:19 (Amplified Bible)

There was a certain rich man who [habitually] clothed himself in purple and fine linen and reveled and feasted and made merry in splendor every day.

Acts 12:21 (Amplified Bible)

On an appointed day Herod arrayed himself in his royal robes, took his seat upon [his] throne, and addressed an oration to them.

The rich man was arrayed in expensive clothes but missed heaven, and so with King Herod but died a horrible death, being eaten by worms because he thought he could take the glory that belonged to GOD.

Acts 12:23 (Amplified Bible)

And at once an angel of the Lord smote him and cut him down, because he did not give God the glory (the preeminence and kingly majesty that belong to Him as the supreme Ruler); and he was eaten by worms and died.

1 Corinthians 11:14-15 (Amplified Bible)

Does not the native sense of propriety (experience, common sense, reason) itself teach you that for a man to wear long hair is a dishonor [humiliating and degrading] to him,

But if a woman has long hair, it is her ornament and glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.

Luke 7:25 (Amplified Bible)

Then what did you go out to see? A man dressed up in soft garments? Behold, those who wear fine apparel and live in luxury are in the courts or palaces of kings.

The LORD JESUS CHRIST pointed out where people dressing in expensive clothes should be, and that's in the palace, at least it has palace guards to guard and protect. It's goes without saying that if you can afford these expensive clothes make sure you are in the proper place and proper people to begin with so you won't be mugged.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Women in the church should dress modestly, with decency and propriety, and not prioritizing the external beauty.
