Daddy, stay close by me, catch me if I fall!
Jude 1:24”Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy”
When my son Joshua was a little boy, my husband would take him to the park and it would be absolute fun to stand and watch them play. My son a timid fellow by nature, would love to climb on the bars and exhibit his valor; however, he would tell my husband, “Daddy, stay close by me, catch me if I fall!” No matter how many hours my son runs around and plays, Samson would patiently stay close by him. Now and then my son would look over to make sure that his daddy is standing close by. Friend, today I want to tell you, if you allow God to stay close by you, He would never abandon you and will surely keep you from falling. Are you listening?
The book of Jude closes with the above beautiful scripture which says that God is able to keep us from stumbling and present us holy and blameless before God. How lovely! Think of the days that God did not allow you to go to a particular party that you wanted to attend desperately, only to find out later that He had kept you back from evil company. If you are disappointed about the cancellation of a marriage proposal, take heart, may be God protected you from a wrong choice. The Apostle Paul says, in 2 Thessalonians 3:3 “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.” May be your application for a job has been turned down, relax, may be God prevented you from joining a wrong company and He has a better job prepared for you. May be someone has rejected you and you feel hurt, depressed and humiliated, but I am sure, everything has happened for good. May be you did not get admission in a particular college or for a particular course, not to worry, something else is set aside for you – trust Him. May be the visa had been turned down and you feel down and broken, take heart friend, that’s not the end of the road, look beyond, God has something more gorgeous waiting for you! Cheer up friend!
You will find that when you choose to obey God, difficulties do not cease immediately, as a matter of fact, you may at times have to contend with adverse circumstances, but God will give you victory towards the end. I particularly love the words of Jesus about the sparrow found in Matthew 10:29 “Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will…. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Isn’t it lovely? If God cares so much about the sparrows, how much more would He watch over us?
There were days I protected my children when they were young from the enemy domains like the cinema theatres, but today with the internet and cable network flooded with secular programs, I now trust my God to keep my children away from the enemy territories. He is our Protector!
Psalm 145:14 “The LORD upholds all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down.”
