Luke 10 25-37 Rise to the occasion

Good Samaritan Laws have been passed as a result of this parable
A helping generous person is called a Good Samaritan
1. What I see in this story today is, "the Good Samarian Raised to the Occasion"
• He made a decision He went where He was
• He made a decision to take pity on the man
• He made a decision to “bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine".
• He made a decision to “put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him"
• He made a decision to “Pay the cost of medical bills and all his needs now that is rising to the occasion
2. Jesus says to the expert of the law do like this Samaritan Rise to the occasion
• Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."
3. Rise to the Occasion as did the Good Samaritan he made a Decision to be compassionate
• Rise to the Occasion by Being willing to cross social barriers There should be no religious, racial, or national barriers to showing compassion!
• Rise to the Occasion by Being willing to take risks
• The Samaritan took a great risk by stopping to help
• What if the robbers were still nearby? What if other thieves came by on this road known as "The Way Of Blood"? So Christians are called upon to take risks - Peter took a risk by jumping out of the boat
• Rise to the Occasion by Being willing to set aside busy schedules The Samaritan was on a journey, but took the time to stop and care for the man
• Rise to the Occasion by Being willing to make sacrifices . The Samaritan sacrificed more than just time and energy
• He used some of his own provisions -
• Lk 10:3434He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his
own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.
• He even offered an open-ended agreement to provide for his help - Lk 10:35 .
• 35The next day he took out two silver coinsE and gave them to the innkeeper. `Look after him,' he said, `and when
I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'
• Jesus taught His disciples to be willing to make sacrifices - Lk 6:29-30. 29If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30Give to everyone who
asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
• In so doing, we are truly followers of God and walking in love - Eph 5:1-2 51Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
