According to all the works which they have done since I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they also do to you.

1 Samuel 15:22 (Amplified Bible)

Samuel said, Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. A cave of escape for David and his men

"SO DAVID departed and escaped to the cave of Adullam:"

1. The cave of Adullam of the Philistines served as an escape cave for David and his men because they were protected from King Saul's frequent attacks.

B. His brothers reunited with him there

"and when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him."

1. What a place to be reunited with his brothers, it's like a family reunion inside a cave. What a sight! And yet cave of Adullam served as eye witness, before David's brother despised him as the youngest among the eight brothers, but there's something different in the cave of Adullam where these brothers now supported David's cause and even when he went to a very uncomfortable place such as a cave, it doesn't matter to them anymore but they prioritized David to meet them there.

C. All who were in debt or discontented went there

"And everyone in distress or in debt or discontented gathered to him"

The cave of Adullam is a place for people in debt and discontented people yet they were turned over since the HOLY ONE of Israel visited this place.

D. David were made commander by the HOLY ONE of Israel

"and he became a commander over them. And there were with him about 400 men"

Micah 1:15 (Amplified Bible)

Yet will I bring a conqueror upon you, O lady inhabitant of Mareshah, who shall possess you; the glory and nobility of Israel shall come to Adullam [to hide in the caves, as did David].

1 Samuel 23:26-29 (Amplified Bible)

And Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. And David made haste to get away for fear of Saul, for Saul and his men were surrounding [him] and his men to capture them.

But a messenger came to Saul, saying, Make haste and come, for the Philistines have made a raid on the land.

So Saul returned from pursuing David and went against the Philistines. So they called that place the Rock of Escape.

David went up from there and dwelt in the strongholds of En-gedi.

1. David never promoted himself but the HOLY ONE of Israel promoted him to commander of the 400 men.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Find your cave of Adullam and hide there together with the HOLY ONE of Israel.
