VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Define "cost" in the Bible

What will be the cost?

Cost came from the Greek word:"dapane" meaning "expense" before you "devour"

(consume)

People always eat, drink and count the cost, they always determine the expense of things. We are always like this because cost is connected with money.

King David has the right heart (attitude), for he said, "I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that COST me nothing"

2 Samuel 24:24 (New International Version)

But the king replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them.

There's always a COST to live, there's no free thing in this world.

1. Cost of sin

Sin has a cost.

Sin will cost you, even costing your life.

Numbers 16:38 (New International Version)

the censers of the men who sinned at the cost of their lives. Hammer the censers into sheets to overlay the altar, for they were presented before the Lord and have become holy. Let them be a sign to the Israelites."

Joshua 6:26 (New International Version)

At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: "Cursed before the Lord is the man who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: "At the cost of his firstborn son will he lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest will he set up its gates."

1 Kings 16:34 (New International Version)

In Ahab's time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the Lord spoken by Joshua son of Nun.

There are people who still want to continue in sin even if it cost their lives and yet will not "pay" for them to come out from sin. What ever the cost? Ask an addict this question "What will you pay to get out from addiction?" and if that addict is sincere to be delivered, he will tell you, whatever the cost, I'm willing to pay, just get me out of this addiction. But to the hypocrite, they're not willing to pay, they will make excuses not to be delivered so that wisdom will not cost them but they've already bought sin.

Sinners does not want to give away money, for it will cost them. They always want a free ride.

Example of rebellious Israel:

They only want free cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic but they don't want to pay for it.

Numbers 11:5 (New International Version)

We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost--also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.

Example of Philistine leaders:

They only want free services from King David and his men but does not want to pay for the cost.

1 Chronicles 12:19 (New International Version)

Some of the men of Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (He and his men did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their rulers sent him away. They said, "It will cost us our heads if he deserts to his master Saul.")

Example of a stingy man:

Always thinking about the cost.

Proverbs 23:7 (New International Version)

for he is the kind of man who is always thinking about the cost. "Eat and drink," he says to you, but his heart is not with you.

2. Cost of wisdom

Even getting wisdom will cost all you have.

Proverbs 4:7 (New International Version)

Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

It seems like wisdom is cheaper, but sin is expensive since it will cost you your life.

3. What it cost GOD, the FATHER to give us Eternal Life?

GOD gives everything for free without a cost but it cost GOD His Only Begotten SON of GOD to give us eternal life.

Isaiah 55:1 (New International Version)

"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.

Revelation 21:6 (New International Version)

He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Come to the LORD GOD for our eternal life for it will not cost us. GOD is Generous.

Sin is expensive than wisdom, so get wisdom it's cheaper.

Will it cost your soul to get rich?

Mark 8:36 (New International Version)

What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?
