Apostasy
April 28, 2013 Morning Service
Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK
Rick Boyne
Message Point: We must not abandon following Jesus; He leads to life.
Focus Passage: 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12
Supplemental Passage: But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. (2 Timothy 3:1-5 NASB)
Introduction: How do you boil a live frog? If you put him in a pot of boiling water, he just jumps out. The way to do it is to sit him in a nice comfortable pot of lukewarm water and turn on the fire underneath. As the water warms up gradually, he doesn’t realize it. He will end up boiling alive. Apostasy is much the same. Seldom does someone go from a fully committed Christ follower to an apostate overnight. It is a gradual turning away. Each and every day we must evaluate our walk with Jesus to make sure we are following Him.
