Magdalene was of the district of Magdala, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, where stood her families castle, called Magdalon; she was the sister of Lazarus and of Martha, and they were the children of parents who were reputed noble and royal descendants of the House of David. On the death of their father, Syrus, they inherited vast riches and possessions in land, which were equally divided between them.
Mary Magdalene was one whom Jesus cast of out 7 demons. To highlight her substantial commitment to the works of Christ; Mary is poised with influence preceding other women after her time. Mary and other women would give contributes to support the efforts of establishing the work of Christ. While accompany Jesus on tours, Mary had a unique opportunity to be an I-witness to the teachings of Jesus Christ to various multitudes. Mary, her sister Martha, and Lazarus very close friends with Jesus. There was an occasion where Lazarus fell sick and died, Mary and Martha comes to Jesus saying, “If you would have been there my brother wouldn’t have died.” Jesus replies to them, “He is only a sleep” Jesus tarries two days and called Lazarus out of the grave. When Jesus visits the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus; Mary chooses the finest perfumes and with her hair anoints the feet of Jesus. Judas Iscariot questioning Jesus about the cost of such expensive perfumes for profits, Jesus replies, “let her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.”
Mary Magdalene also stood by the cross with Mary the mother of Jesus when he speaks with his mother at Calvary. Mary also stood a far off when Jesus takes his last breath. Mary Magdalene also was present at the tomb to cover Jesus body with fine lien as she watch the stone rolled unto the grave. After the Sabbath day Mary and others went to the tomb to anoint Jesus body, however when they approached the sepulchre an angel sitting on the stone proclaiming Jesus was not there and that the stone had been rolled away. Jesus appears to Mary standing outside weeping when she looks into the tomb and saw two angels in white sitting at the head and feet where Jesus body was lying. They said to her, why are you weeping? She said to them because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they laid him. When she had turned around and saw Jesus standing she said “Rabboni! Jesus told her not to touch Him because he had not yet ascended to the Father, but go to my brethren and say to them, “I have ascend to my Father and your Father, and my God and your God. Mary comes, announcing to disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and that He has said these things to her.
I’ve learned many things from this study. Thus, I will not discriminate against any women as it relates to the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I will also respect their influences, without them the Christian movement would be stagnate and insufficient. I will also acknowledge their contribution to Christianity. Their voices have been a sounding board for Christian men and women all over the world. Their contribution, commitment, and commission should not go unnotice.
