Genesis 17:1-7

Father:

The Hebrew word for father is [Ah-V]; spelled: Aleph Vet.

In the ancient Hebrew pictographic script, this word was written as:

Ox head (Aleph), Tent (Beyt).

The Ox head means strength; the tent is the house where the family lives.

When combined: it is "the strength of the house."

Therefore the father is one who provides strength to the family.

Mother:

The Hebrew word for mother is [E-yM]; spelled: Aleph Mem.

In the ancient Hebrew pictographic script, this word was written as:

Ox head (Aleph), Water (Mem).

The Ox head means strength; flowing water, i.e. denotes action.

When combined: it is "strong water." And “strong water” = Glue.

Therefore the mother is one who “binds” the family together.

Son:

The Hebrew word for son is [Ben]; spelled: Beyt Nun.

In the ancient Hebrew pictographic script, this word was written as:

Tent (Beyt), Seed (Nun).

The Tent is the house where the family lives; The Seed is a new generation that will produce a new generation; i.e. denoting “continuance”.

When combined: it means to "continuing the house." Therefore the Son continues the family linage.

Isaac was the “son” of promise:

Genesis 26:1-5 “1- And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. 2- And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: 3- Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; 4- And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 5- Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

The Abrahamic covenant is an everlasting covenant:

Genesis 17:7 “And I {Yah-way} will establish my covenant between me and thee{Abraham} and thy seed{Isaac} after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.”

Let’s consider the covenant:

Jeremiah 31:30 “But every one shall die for his own iniquity…”

Jeremiah 31:31-33 “31- Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house

of Judah: 32- Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day [that] I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: 33- But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

Remember, Jesus did not come to destroy the Law (Greek: nomos [nah-moss]; equivalent to the Hebrew Torah). He came and fulfilled it.

Matthew 5:17-18 Jesus said, “17- Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18- For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

The Pharisees were legalist; they were more interested in the letter (mechanics) of the law, than the spirit (intent) of it.

For example: Matthew 5:27-28 Jesus said, “27- Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28- But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”

Paul called this concept, “A better covenant!”

Hebrews 8:6-10 “6- But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. 7- For if that first [covenant] had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. 8- For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: 9- Not according to the covenant

that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. 10- For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:”

Remember our reading of Genesis 26:5 “5- Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

Laws here is the Hebrew word Torah; meaning teachings.

Calling the Torah, Law is like calling a father a provider.

He is a provider, but he is also so much more… protector, instructor…

The same would be true of just calling a mother a cook.

She is a cook and so much more… nurturer, home maker…

Likewise the Torah is much more than just laws; it is the teachings.

So then from Genesis 26 and verse 5 we find that Abraham was keeping Torah before the Torah was given through Moses (Moshe).

Abraham wasn’t keeping the literal 613 commandments of the Law.

Rather he was keeping the intent (Spirit) of the Torah.

And it was accounted unto him as righteousness.

Romans 4:8-16 David said in Psalm 32 [1004 BC – David wrote this Psalm right after he wrote Psalm 51; which was after he was exposed by the prophet Nathanael (Bathsheba).] “8- Blessed [is] the man to

whom the Lord will not impute sin. 9- [Cometh] this blessedness then upon the circumcision [only], or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. 10- How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 11- And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which [he had yet] being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: 12- And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which [he had] being [yet] uncircumcised. 13- For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, [was] not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 14- For if they which are of the law [be] heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: 15- Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, [there is] no transgression. 16- Therefore [it is] of faith, that [it might be] by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,”

Our Father Abraham!

He is the Father of the Faithful!

Galatians 3:5-14 “5- He [Jesus] therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, [doeth he it] by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 6- Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. 7- Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. 8- And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, [saying], In

thee shall all nations be blessed. 9- So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. 10- For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. 11- But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, [it is] evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 12- And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 13- Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree: 14- That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

Acts 2:1-4 “1- And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2- And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3- And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4- And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Hebrews 11:39-40 “39- And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40- God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.”
