• “The worship leader refused to listen to me about the songs and music I wanted.”

• “No one from my church visited me.”
• “I was not about to support the building program they wanted.”
• “I was out two weeks and no one called me.”
• “They moved the times of the worship services and it messed up my schedule.”

I. Respect Requested
a. They didn’t want a job, but only the honor of sitting on each side of Jesus
b. They understood the reality of His reign, but misunderstood its meaning
c. They asked out of pride and ignorance
II. Ability Assumed
a. Jesus asked them if they were able to drink the cup
b. They assured Him they were
c. They answered out of pride and ignorance
III. Ministry Mandated
a. Jesus explained the essence of His Kingdom; it shall be a reign of service
b. Jesus told them to follow His example of service
c. "So the last shall be first, and the first last." (Matthew 20:16 NASB)
Invitation: JFK said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” If politicians get this principle, shouldn’t the church? You don’t join the Army to see what you can get out of it. You join to serve.
