Message Point: Jesus is God with us.
Focus Passage: Matthew 1:18-25
Supplemental Passage: And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14 NASB)
Introduction: Immanuel and Emmanuel mean the same thing. Immanuel (with an I) is the English version of the Hebrew word. Emmanuel (with an E) is the English translation of the Greek translation of the Hebrew word.
I. Old Prophecy
a. "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14 NASB)
b. There are some who say there are over 300 prophecies of the coming Messiah in the old Testament
c. There are 109 references in the NT of OT prophecies of the coming Messiah
d. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 NASB)
II. Present Truth
a. and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20b NASB)
b. When Jesus is our Lord, we are never alone: "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5 ESV)
c. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 NASB)
III. Future Reality
a. There are over 500 prophecies concerning the Second Coming of Jesus
b. "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:2-3 NASB)
c. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 NASB)
