John 9:1-41
Verse 1-Blind From Birth-It would be bad never to see a sunset, or a sunrise, or the turning of the leaves in the fall, to see your spouse’s face, or child, grandchild, and as bad as that is, not seeing Jesus for who He is, and what He offers, is far worse!
2 Cor. 4:4- whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
Verse 1-Who Sinned-The disciples wanted to know who was to blame for this man being blind, maybe they even thought what a waste of a life (The man who said, “We shouldn’t try to save premature babies, the fit of the fittest should ) All I can say, “Is you can’t fix stupid!”
Thank God that He doesn’t see any persons life a waste!
Thank God that he doesn’t give up on us!
Verse 5-I Am The Light Of The World-Light was a major factor in the Feast of Tabernacles. During the feast the lamps in the Court of the Women were lighted at night.
This was to commemorate God’s presence in the pillar of fire during Israel’s wilderness wanderings (Ex. 13:21).
At the end of the feast the lights were extinguished.
Some interpreters see Jesus’ claim, "I am the light of the world" as being spoken during the feast while the lights were still burning.
Others see this event coming the day following the feast after the lights had been extinguished. Either position adds to the meaning of Jesus’ words.
Even while the lights were burning they were only a symbol of God’s presence.
If they had been extinguished, the emphasis would be upon the temporary nature of lamps’ light.
But Jesus is the real presence of God among men as light, and that light is never extinguished
Verse 8-Is Not This He Who Sat And Begged-He had to beg for his living, he was helpless and hopeless, he couldn’t provide for his own livelihood, that is the way we are without Christ, we can’t met our own spiritual needs!
2 Cor. 8:9-For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
Verse 17-He Is A Prophet-Definition….somebody who interprets divine will, somebody predicting the future
The man recognizes that Jesus has ability to speak on the behalf of God.
I believe that is where most people start their Christian walk, when they hear the Word and believe the Word is true and that it is from God.
What the blind man was saying, “He is a man to be listen to, I listen to Him once and did what He said and now I can see!”
Verse 33-If This Man Were Not From God, He Could Do Nothing-The man recognizes that Jesus was from God.
When a person comes to Christ as their Savior, they must first realize that Jesus was more than man, more than a prophet, more than a great teacher, more than a faith healer, is the Son of God!
Verse 38-Lord, I Believe-After he was kick out of the temple, Jesus went looking for him. And he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
I am sure this wasn’t the first time the religious leaders had turn their back on him, I wonder how many people the church has turned their back on, has cast out, has deflocked, and they never realize how much Jesus loves those people and has a plan for those people!
Verse 40-41-The Pharisees who were standing there heard him and asked, "Are you saying we are blind?" "If you were blind, you wouldn't be guilty," Jesus replied. "But you remain guilty because you claim you can see. (NLT)
Verse 41-Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains. (NIV)
Your claim to possess light, while rejecting Me, is that which seals up your guilt of unbelief.
