Excuse me while I step on your toes.
Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Paul is telling his dear friends in Philippi let nothing be done in quarreling or self-esteem. Verse 4 says Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
There is the word that some folks just clean forget…..OTHERS!
Brenda and I were at the Sevierville Tennessee Events Center this week at a conference with one of my favorite Bible teachers, Dr. David Jeremiah. We were there last year at this same time for a week. I really enjoy it, besides being a learning experience.
With speakers like Pastor Jeremiah and popular gospel singers come the crowds. Twenty five hundred to three thousand mostly senior Christians standing in line for first come first serve seats sometimes for an hour.
Now, being all senior Christians you would think that everyone is polite and wanting to put others comfort and wellbeing before themselves…..buzzzz…wrong!
It really amazed me the first one of these we went to a few years ago even at Billy Graham’s Cove in Asheville. What was so amazing is how rude some Christian people are. By no means am I talking about all but, many are self-centered and so obvious that they only think of themselves it really sadden me the first time I saw this.
This week I just began to watch and for some reason it was really humorous. About 10 minutes before the doors were open ….here they come!…..sweet innocent mostly little old ladies pushing, making their way in front of the line.
Some would even look at you as to say…”you need to move or I will step on your toes while I get in front of you.”
This happen a few times and I whispered in Brenda’s ear….”Pushing, Shoving, Breaking line in the name of Jesus”
Now, why do some act this way? Paul says: Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others ….Bible says to put others before yourself but, some just won’t do it because of self-centeredness.
The Bible says to Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Now just what was the mind of Christ Jesus?
It was humbling Himself all the way down to humility. Well, why did He do that? It was for you and me.
Paul said in Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2. With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; That is the mind of Christ and we are supposed to be an example….that what Christian means…to be Christ like.
Thank God that our salvation didn’t depend on the humbleness and humility of you or me. It’s all about Jesus.
Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
