Understanding Seed
God wants us to prosper in every way possible. That is why He made provision for us to be blessed.
Genesis 8:22 - While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.
The earth is going to remain forever. That is what the Bible teaches us. It may undergo a change as it has in the past, but it will remain forever. If we believe this, then we must believe that seedtime and harvest will remain with us forever into eternity. If we do not understand this principle now we will not appropriate it in eternity.
Seed can be something that is physical and also spiritual. Seed comes in many forms. For example, the Bible tells us that faith is a seed. We know that faith in its seed form has the potential of producing things that are beyond our imagination. Seed can therefore have many definitions. An idea that you have in your mind can be a seed that can lead to something that has never been created before. Your money is also a seed.
A seed also represents new beginnings. A new decision that you have made for your life can result in something that is good in the future. Everything begins with a seed. If you want to start something new you will have to find the seed that represents where you want to go. It can either be a physical seed or a spiritual seed.
1. A seed has different states
A seed has three states. It is either producing, or it is dormant, or it is dead and can never produce anything. A seed can lie dormant in a barn for many years, but can start producing the moment it is planted into the ground.
2. A seed is the source of life
If there is no seed, there cannot be life. Many people spend a lot of time and energy expecting things to happen for them. Remember, if there is no seed, there will be no harvest.
The seed is the source of life and there is no alternative to a seed. There is no short cut. If you want something, find the seed of what you want, and plant it.
3. A seed always produces something
Genesis 1:12 - And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Whatever seed you sow will always produce something. It will produce a harvest and will produce after its own kind. The seed you plant will determine what you are going to harvest.
4. The seed is the future
So many people consult fortune tellers so that someone can tell them the future, but when you look at your seed, you are able to look into the future.
We can determine our own future depending on how you apply the principle of seedtime and harvest.
Your seed can ensure that you will enjoy abundance and prosperity in the future. You can start determining your future by sowing the right seeds today. We have all been called to prosper and to have abundance of all things. God has set these principles in place for all eternity. All we need to do is sow.
If you need finances tomorrow you need to plant your seed of finances today because your seed will determine your harvest.
5. The seed must be planted
You cannot look at your seed and declare your future if you do not plant the seed. Things begin to happen immediately after the seed touches the soil. That is the miracle of the seed.
6. The seed must not be eaten
Nutritionists tell us that although the seed may look like food, it can harm your stomach because it contains poisons. Seed must be planted and not eaten.
If a farmer eats the seed there will be nothing to put into the ground the following year and there will be no harvest.
7. Sowing must be ongoing
Psalms 126:6 - He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
Do not stop sowing seed. It must be a lifestyle and become a habit. You cannot sow seed once and expect to be blessed. Sowing seed and reaping a harvest is a continuous cycle.
8. The seed produces after its own kind
You cannot plant tomato seeds and expect to harvest corn. It does not work that way. The seed you plant is what you are will harvest. For example, if you want good and happy relationships you will need to sow seeds of kindness and love.
9. Seed crushes Satan’s head
Genesis 3:15 - And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."
Satan and his evil forces will continually try to harass and torment God’s children. One of the most powerful ways to confront your enemy in spiritual warfare is to sow a seed, because it is the seed that crushes the head of Satan. You can rebuke the devil but it is a seed that will crush his head. What does it mean to crush his head? It means that it crushes his power and authority over you.
The devil has no right to mess with our lives, our families, and finances. Whenever negative situations present themselves, I take money and I sow a seed. It always works for me. It hurts my pocket but it solves the problem. At times we have to pay a price to get rid of the problem. Satan cannot speak against you with his mouth when you crush his head with a seed.
10. God does His part
Isaiah 30:23 - Then he will give the rain for your seed with which you sow the ground, and bread of the increase of the earth; it will be fat and plentiful. In that day your cattle will feed in large pastures.
God does His part because He honors seed. God is always willing to help us, but He also looks for seed. God cannot multiply nothing. Nothing times hundred equals nothing.
A seed causes God to invade your world. It gives Him permission to intervene on your behalf. He will suddenly show up and people will wonder why you are so blessed. All they see is the blessing. God is not a respecter of persons – He respects seeds. You can be an ordinary person with an ordinary education, but you can excel above and beyond those that have been given better opportunities than you because of your seed. God will promote you ahead of others.
I have sowed continuously throughout my life and attribute everything that I have today to seeds that I have sown.
If you are experiencing a low point in your life, whether it is family troubles, sickness, or finances, sow a seed and believe God for a miracle. God will certainly do His part because He respects seed.
11. The power remains in the seed
Haggai 2:19 - Is the seed still in the barn? As yet the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit. But from this day I will bless you.
Never give up on your seed. When I pray I always remind God about my seed. If you planted something years ago it still has power today. While it is still in the ground it has power and that is why you should not give up on your seed. The power remains there.
12. Seed builds God’s Kingdom
Matthew 2:1-2 - Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem.
God has been building His Kingdom throughout history and used people in the past. Every generation that has come and gone, has had some part in building God’s Kingdom. Today He is using you and me.
I see the Kingdom of God like a quilt that has many different colors and fabrics of all different types of materials. It is very colorful and that is how God has been building His Kingdom over many thousands of years. I cannot help but believe that it reflects the nature and character of all the people who have lived in past generations and who in some way contributed to the building. He puts in a little bit here and a little bit there. We are all different and come from all different backgrounds, but God has knitted everything together.
Matthew 2:1-2;11 - Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him." And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
This did not just happen by accident. Somewhere in the past, a seed must have been sown to have caused these men to come from the east and place treasures at the feet of Jesus. A seed in the past must have resulted in this harvest.
God called Abraham from the east two thousand years before the birth of Jesus. Abraham left the land of the Chaldeans which is present day Iraq and moved to Canaan by faith when God spoke to him. Because he obeyed God, he was blessed by God.
Abraham was a rich man and took his tithe and placed it at the feet of King Melchizedek, who was a type and shadow of Christ.
When Jesus was born two thousand years later, wise men came from Abraham’s original hometown and placed treasure at the feet of Jesus.
When we obey God and sow a seed as Abraham did, we have no idea how we can affect our descendants. God was faithful to Abraham by allowing his descendants to meet Jesus because of Abraham’s seed.
Obey God
Our seed represents an everlasting blessing. For example, you are perhaps born again and blessed today, because one of your family members believed God five hundred years ago and sowed a seed by faith and you are the living harvest of that faith. It’s not totally inconceivable, because that is the way God builds His Kingdom.
Your seed becomes an everlasting blessing and you may not see the harvest in your lifetime, but Jesus promises us that our seed will be a harvest for us in eternity. He remembers all the seed we have sown in our lifetime and if we have not harvested in this lifetime, we will have our harvest in the future, even if it is in eternity, because seedtime and harvest is everlasting and never ceases.
Sowing and reaping is not only about life on earth, but is also about life after we have died because it is about God’s Kingdom which is an everlasting Kingdom.
When believers witness to others, the harvest will only be seen in heaven where they will be rewarded for their work which produces eternal fruit.
From today, start out by becoming seed-conscious knowing that God wants to build something beautiful in your life. Never go anywhere without seed that you can sow.
