Summary: See why going to church is healthy for you and your family.

Why Is Church Healthy For You And Your Family

Proverbs 4:20-23 (NKJV) My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.

21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart;

22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

In this verse Solomon tell us that doing what the Word of God says will bring health to our Bodies.

Some might say, well this isn't talking about our physical bodies but our spirit, well let's see about that.

Health. KJVHEB: 4832. מַרְפֵּא marppḗ, mar-pay';

CWS_OT: A masculine noun indicating health, healing, a remedy. It refers to the restoration, cure, or renewal of an illness, sickness: It has the sense of health or healing with respect to the body. It also means medicine.

Proverbs 3:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

8 It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.

So we see that God's word and living for God is medicine to all of our flesh.

Now where do we get God's Word? A church

So What is a Church and why is it healthy for us.

Here what Jesus said about the church.

Matthew 16:13-18 (NKJV) When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

So we see the Church are those who have received the revelation that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Jesus told His disciples that it's this revelation that the whole Christian foundation is build upon, that Jesus is the Messiah, Lord and Savior of the world.

As we receive this revelation, we go to church and then share with other this great healthy message.

This is what we see happening right from the beginning in the Book of Acts, the Church history book.

Attending services lowers blood pressure the more you go

Researchers found that attending services lowers blood pressure – and the more often you go the lower it becomes.

Previous studies in the U.S. suggested the link, but as 40% of Americans regularly go to church its health benefits were treated as a coincidence. So the Norwegian researchers, who had just 4% of churchgoers among their 120,000 participants, were surprised to see they too had lower blood pressure.

‘We found that the more often the participants went to church the lower their blood pressure.

‘Previous research from the United States has shown that there is a possible link between people who attend church and blood pressure.

‘About 40 per cent of the U.S. population goes to church on a weekly basis, while the corresponding figure in Nord-Trondelag County, where the research was carried out, is 4 per cent.

'For that reason, we did not expect to find any correlation between going to church and blood pressure.

'Our findings, however, are almost identical to those previously reported from the United States, so we were really surprised.’

Another Study: Regular attendance at religious services has been shown to decrease death rates among Elderly people.

A large US study found that religious folk had lower blood pressure, less depression and anxiety, stronger immune systems and generally cost the health-care system less than people who were less involved in religion.

The research looked at 4,000 old people from North Carolina, and found that of the 1,177 who died during a six-year period, 22.9% were frequent church attenders, compared with 37.4 who were infrequent attenders.

Similar results were produced by the University of California at Berkeley in a study of some 5,000 people aged 21 to 65.

Those who attended religious services at least once a week had a 23% lower risk of dying over the 28 years on which the research was based.

Dr Harold Koenig, from the Duke University Medical Center, said: "Participating in religious services is associated with significant health benefits in elderly people, even when you take into account the fact the religious people tend to start out with better health practices and more social support."

Of course, those attending church would say that long life has its precedents in the Christian religion.

After all, Noah is said by the Bible to have lived to the ripe old age of 950, despite all the stress associated with surviving a world-wide flood.

Abraham and his wife Sarah apparently lived to 175 and 127 respectively.

However, the strain of leading the Jewish people out of Egypt and across the desert took its toll on Moses - he lived to only 120.

Psalms 91:16 (NKJV) With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”

Another Article: Weekly religious attendance could add years to your life, according to a medical study carried out in the US.

The effects of exercise, religious attendance and anti-cholesterol drugs on life expectancy were examined.

All three were found to be beneficial, with religious attendance adding two to three years to your life.

The results of the research were published in the March-April issue of the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine.

Ok in closing, this was all nice but now it's a decision we have to make for yourself and the well being of your family. We heard today that:

43% of children are saved before the age of 13

64% of Christians are saved before the age of 18

That children and teens that go to church regularly with their parents have a much better chance of not giving into peer pressure associated with drug, drinking, smoking, sex etc.

That going to church lower blood pressure and also gives you a longer and healthier life.

So I encourage you, make church a part of your every week life. Make it a priority and see a major change in you and your family. Remember,

Pro. 4:22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
