John 4:1-6-Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), He left Judea and departed again to Galilee.
But He needed to go through Samaria.
So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
But He Needed To Go Through Samaria-Most Jews went dozens of miles out of their way to avoid going through the land of the Samaritans. But Jesus is going where the lost is, the lost that will accept what He has to offer!
No matter where we go, (Restaurant, Shopping, Work, Vacation, Doctor’s office) we are still a missionary for Christ!
Jesus Therefore, Being Wearied From His Journey, Sat Thus By The Well-John wants to reveal Jesus’ deity, but also he points out the humanity side of Jesus.
Even in His weariness, He is ready to share God’s plan! Now the question is? Are we?
Verse 7-9-A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
A woman of Samaria came to draw water-Just like He does to this woman Jesus positions Himself directly in our pathway. We kind of go through life without much thought for God or His plan for our life. Then, out of the blue, we are confronted with the truth. Thank God for the strategic crossroads of life!
When people aren't coming to Christ, it's because we are not going to the people!
We can't be fishers of men by fishing in a barrel; if the fish won't come to the barrel, then we must go where the fish are!
The problem with sowing the seed is not that there is no good ground to be found, but that the seed is still in the barn!
Nicodemus probably thought he had no sin, because he was religious, and Jesus pointed out his need to be born again, now Jesus is dealing with a person that knows she’s a sinner but is running or trying to hide the truth (If we ignore it will go away!)
You notice how Jesus works, she is there at noon day, when all the other woman of the village had all ready come and gone ( I don’t care what era you live in, whether Old Testament, New Testament, the 1800s or in 2012. If you have owned more husbands than cars in your life, people will start to talk), none of her 5 ex-husbands or her current lover are with her, nor or the disciples (They had their on prejudice to deal with. Verse 27) It was just Jesus and her!
Give Me A Drink-Jesus uses what they have in common to start the conversation, they both want water!
This is a great tool to use when we have the opportunity to witness…When your sitting in a doctor’s office and we can start a conversation to the person next to us, ask them what their illness is, which can lead to asking them how can you pray for them or telling them you put them on the prayer list. Standing in line at the grocery store, or gas station and being able to share your faith and your dependence upon God in these tough times!
COMMON INTERESTS CREATE A BRIDGE.
Family (such as children, grandchildren)
Activities (such as work, community projects, hobbies)
Shared experiences (such as travel, or even tragedies)
“How Is It That You, Being A Jew, Ask A Drink From Me, A Samaritan Woman?” For Jews Have No Dealings With Samaritans-She has some prejudice and some barriers of her own, she needed to get over…When she looked at Him, she saw a different sex, different race or nationality, and religion.
Jesus is all about bearing down barriers, between Jews and Gentiles, men and women, sinners and God
A lot of times when we are witnessing to someone, or ministering to someone, or just inviting them to church, we have to get thru some walls they have put up!
Jews did have dealings with Samaritans, matter of a fact, the disciples were purchasing food from one, because they were in their neighborhood, but they didn’t socialize with!
