My God is an awesome God!
Psa 33:8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
Patsy was reading the paper and they were explaining that in the churches there are three phases that a church goes through concerning its pastor:
1. Blessed is he that come from the Lord
2. By whose authority is he doing this?
3. Crucify him! Crucify him!
I pray that we never leave the first one! Ha ha
I want each of you to repeat that with me this morning,
do it now, “My God is an awesome God”.
Now that didn’t sound like you believe it let’s do it again, “My God is an awesome God!’. That was better. Recently I have been trying to show you the great work that God wants to do in you but I feel that you have doubts about God’s capabilities. Today I pray that this message will remove any doubt about the abilities of God!
I know that when you look at things from our perspective they really look a little bleak. I mean if you aren’t concerned about this economic system today there’s is something wrong. We see the market fall but instead of allowing the system to complete the crash and rebound which is the markets historical rhythm our government interfered and now we have this false economy that really has no way to recovery without private enterprise. Folks, from the beginning it has always been that way some efforts fail, but others come along and succeed. Washington keeps talking about balanced budgets but keep spending money they don’t have. I see the devil running rampant in this world just as told in the scriptures. Can’t you see it too? The fastest growing death rate today is not cancer, it’s not heart attacks, and it’s not so called natural disaster such as floods, earthquakes, or tornados. It is man killing man.
The immorality in this world is at the bottom and the rage is at the top.
We have an election coming where one of the primary parties has said in their beliefs or as they call it their platform that it doesn’t matter what God wants or what God likes. They are going to kill all the babies they want to and the government is going to pay for it. They say also that a sin that God referred to as an abomination can be openly practiced and that if you object to it you can be jailed as a hater. And their saving grace, this so called health system, will one day be paying doctors to euthanize old people who aren’t productive. I may be stretching that one a little but as I read it, the government will appoint a government employee to mandate your care. So, if Medicare is an indication, then we are not going to have what we need to get better so they will just let us die.
Are you depressed now? I am sorry but if you will hang with me then I promise that I have a word from God that will pick you up! For you see:
God is bigger than the universe: Join me say “God is Bigger than the universe.”
God is bigger than the economic situation! again, “God is bigger than my finances”
God is bigger than politics! And again, “God is bigger than Politics.
My God is an Awesome God!!
I am going to take God’s words and prove each of these points.
You can know in your heart that God is going to do a great work right here through you. The apostle Paul said, “for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”

We are about to board the Glory train to God’s word. One more time let me here you say it?
My God is an awesome God!
God is bigger than the universe. What more can be said, because the universe, our world, and all the natural manifestations were created by Him. I would think that no one would know more about something than the person who created it.
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Gen. 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Here in the beginning of God’s word it tells us that God created the world. Oh yeah! Lets look at another verse,
Gen. 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Did you pick up on that? God created the whole world without lifting a finger. His Spirit moved, says to me that God decided it was going to happen and it happened. Now to continue we read that God spoke and instantly there was light. We established last week that light travels at 186,000 miles per second so I would say when God got ready for it to happen it happened.
Bigger than the Universe: God is in everything as the psalmist observed: Psalms 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
I love to go to the beach and I love to go to the Smokey Mountains which makes planning a vacation difficult. Once when the children were at home we did both a weekend in the mountains and the rest of the week at Gulf shores. In either location or really anywhere you can experience the majesty of this wonderful creation, looking at the power of the sea or the intricate beauty of the carving of the caverns through the majestic mountains you can see the hand of God and should be filled with awe. As David says:
Psalms 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
Psalm 33:7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.
Psalm 33:8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
Psalm 33:9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
Our God is so in charge that he micro manages. Yes here let me show you: Mat.10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. I would say that if God knows the number of hairs that I have left then he knows everything. Now notice one other thing then we will move on to the next point, God is bigger than the elements. We see this many times in the Bible in the days of Elijah God shut up the heavens until Elijah prayed. When the children were slaves in Egypt God sent the different plagues to cause Pharaoh to let His people go. In the life of Jesus we see the lame walk, the blind to see, evil spirits removed from people, and on several occasions the dead were raised to life. Also, when the disciples were on the sea and the storm was raging just simply a word from Jesus caused it to cease. Now I believe that if God can do all this He can handle any little problems that we may have.
God is bigger than the economic situations!
I believe that materialism has been glamorized by so many for so long that everybody in money conscious. If we got it we want more and if we don’t have it we wanted it. I want today to encourage you that all God asks of you is to be good stewards of what you are given. God owns everything:
Psa_50:10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
Even when those emergencies come and we don’t know what we are going to do God has already provided for them:
Matthew 17:27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. (What are the odds of Peter casting one hook (not a net) into the ocean and catching a fish with “correct change” in its mouth?)
God has even prepared for your future, Jesus said I go and prepare a place for you, Listen:
John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Mat. 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
God is bigger than Politics
It is election time and people are stirred up. I believe that I have heard more people comment on this election than any that I can remember. Regardless who is elected God is above politics. It makes it easier for him and relieves the stress on us when we as Christians vote with our Bible and not our pocket book and don’t get snookered in by some smooth liar. I can say that this is the dirtiest campaign that I can remember! The point that I want to make here though is that God is bigger than governments notice that the ultimate winner of the election is Jesus:
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
All through the Old Testament we see where God has blessed governments that loved Him. We also see governments who failed to listen to God and chose the way of men that were destroyed or laid captive by other countries. All this happened at the will of God. Look here at the prophecy of Zephaniah
Zep. 2:9 Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.
Zep. 2:10 This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.
Zep. 2:11 The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.
Zep. 2:12 Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword.
Zep. 2:13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness.
Zep. 2:14 And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the cedar work.
Zep. 2:15 This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.
Folks everything prophesied happened!
God knows what is going on here on earth He knew it then and he knows it now and
God is in control! And God is Awesome!
We make mistakes in choosing our government, look at the different forms of government that Israel asked for in the Old Testament, none, judges, and kings and in all forms of government there were good government and there was bad government but one thing to remember If God’s people with come together and lift their voices to Him He can change the government for he is bigger than politics.
He heard the voices of the slaves in Egypt and He will hear our voices today!
“2Ch.7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
You see all these situations that we are so concerned about are all nothing compared to God.
They are all having one root cause and that is sin. Economics stem from the sin of greed. Politics come out of the sin of pride and power.
Have I got news for you! God has already defeated sin!
Mat. 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
By doing away with the root cause then God has already won victory over all the problems we face. God wants to do a great work in you but he cannot dwell where there is sin. Therefore he has told us in 1John 8-9 that, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
What do you have to fear?
The things of this world? God is bigger than this whole universe so he is bigger than the things of this world.
Your financial situation?
We have seen that God is bigger than finances. He has the means and he promised to take care of you. God is bigger than economic situations
Politics?
Again we see all through history God has overcome corrupt governments and taken care of those who love and follow him.
Now as I’ve told you before being a child of God don’t mean that you won’t have mountains to climb and trials along the way. Remember that Jesus himself was persecuted and then crucified but the story didn’t end there. On the third day (oh boy) The tomb was empty!!! That’s right! God won the victory over death and the grave. Didn’t I tell you God is awesome! This Awesome God loves you.
